Thread: How much do you think iPhone 5 has affected the launch date of BlackBerry 10?

So there has been a lot of buzz lately as to how BlackBerry 10 will fare against Apple's iPhone 5. A lot of people are speculating if BlackBerry 10 will be able to take back their place in the US subscriber base and give RIM a place in the top 3 North American sellers.

Many have speculated that RIM delayed BlackBerry 10, in all or part, because they didn't want to release BlackBerry 10 during the launch of the iPhone 5. Therefore, RIM has delayed BlackBerry 10 till Jan of 2013, plenty of time after the iPhone 5 will launch.

So we are asking you, the community, what do you think?

it'll depend on what iPhone 5 looks like.

I'm talking about just the fact that iPhone 5 will launch this year and that RIM has delayed till Jan 2013. Not what the iPhone 5 will look like and the effects of that.

The release of the iPhone5 is definitely affected the launch of BB10. Originally we were going to see BB10 in the fall, but that has also been the rumored release date of the new iPhone as well. The bottom line is that RIM cannot directly compete with a close iPhone release at this time. So they had to strategically launch BB10 at a later time. Personally, I think this was a bigger factor in the delay of BB10 then RIM would be willing to admit.

The iPhone 5, Galaxy S 3, upcoming Nexus devices, Windows Phone 8... each of these were the reason for the delay(s) of BB10 products coming out. The concerns that the carriers had were valid and they want to suport RIM to the fullest; however, couldn't do so in that jumbled mess of releases. Separating the best product out of the pack will prove to be a huge benefit for the carriers and RIM alike.

So far the poll shows that the majority think that the iPhone 5 release did have something to do with the BlackBerry 10 delay. About 38% think it didn't. Not surprised with the results.
