Would You Buy A BlackBerry Smartphone Running PlayBook OS 2.1 And Had BBM?

So with the news of BlackBerry 10 being delayed till sometime during the first quarter of 2013 (roughly 6+ months from now), there are many questions floating around as to what will RIM do to keep BlackBerry fresh in the eyes of loyal users? Many are wondering if the latest OS 7 will be able to hold interest, or if RIM has any other OS updates in store along the way? I for one am not happy about the delay. And although I'll be sticking with Team BlackBerry always, the average user will shy away from the platform unless it has what the general consumer market wants. Let's face it, OS 7 has a lot of great qualities that us BlackBerry users want, but it does lack fundamental features (video chat, apps, ect) that the average smartphone user craves for.

This brings me to my poll question for you. For those of us who have BlackBerry PlayBook tablets, we know the power and capability they posses. And for those of us who have Dev Alpha devices, we know the potential they have.

If RIM were to announce the release of a new BlackBerry Smartphone tomorrow that has the form factor of the Dev Alpha, running PlayBook OS 2.1, and BBM equipped - would you purchase it? (vote in our site poll above)

Please explain why you would choose yes, or no?

No, no, no and NO. All concentration should be on BB10. Simple as that.
    Bad idea and bad poll.
Let's stick with Rim guys but maybe cut down the crap and wait for bb10.

it would take more than bbm to make os2.1 a suitable phone os. right now that would be a step backward, not sure why ppl voted yes unless they just want a change.

I would vote Yes since Playbook OS is built on the QNX platform. It would have to have the capability to access the Android market directly since Playbook apps are scarce in quantity. It would be a tablet with the ability to place calls.

I would definitely buy it if it comes to the market but at the same time RIM should focus all the efforts on BB10.
BlackBerry for life. RIMPIRE will strike back. Yes I am saying this after today's delay announcement.

Let's say that the release of such a device would not affect the timing of BB10. Would you buy it then?

yes. i would definitely buy it. not coz im a bb fan boy but coz i know the power of QNX. it has proved its worth. u can literally run any OS on QNX. for ex recently some dev ran IOS apps on QNX, android apps we all know run well on QNX, Nintendo emulators, ect... Also donot forget the "TRUE" multi tasking capabilities, bridge function, tethering, conservative usage of data, a team that has reinvented itself and it dedicated for innovation and above all the credibility and socially responsible RIM. cant beat it.

Plus, imagine knowing that your OS 2.1 smartphone will also be able to update to BB10, just like the PB will be able to.

As it is, and has been for years now, anyone not using a BlackBerry downplays its significance in the mobile space. They simply don't get what makes a BlackBerry so special in comparison to other phones. Granted, the hardware and software has let us down quite a bit, but with this Dev Alpha, software and hardware are a very solid union. The upgrade to BB10 down the road would be a bonus.

With that said, if you're willing to stick with your BB5, 6, or 7 phone, or purchase a BB7 phone, you should certainly be more than willing to pick up one of these. If for nothing else, you should be willing to buy one just for the vast superiority to our current BlackBerry models.

Right, OS 2.1 is complete enough to make a great device. Albeit, it's not going to be BB10, but that's the point. It would be a great phone to hold us off for the next 6+ months.

    No way.

The PlayBook OS is NOT a 'BlackBerry' OS. There's no deep-linking of apps and that BlackBerry experience that they are working to bring to BB10.

Sure, you'll probably be able to upgrade down the line. But I really don't think there would be any benefit to owning a BBPB phone. I have no doubt that I'd end up sticking with my 9900.

In essence, it would be a fully working Dev Alpha. You can't tell me you would rather use your 9900 over that, would you?

If that were the case, I might as well have a Droid. At least I'd have notifications from Twitter.

Seriously, I cannot imagine tolerating the PlayBook OS on a phone. I would almost definitely stick with my 9900.

May be if I look at it from another angle I would understand some of these responses:
What apps do u use on your smartphone and what would the equivalent be on the PB 2.1 phone and are they as capable?
What are some of the common tasks you perform/features used on your smartphone and how would you do it on the PB2.1 OS?

    For example for apps:
Whatspp, msn, google, facebook, googlemaps, runkeeper, shazaam, tsmobiles, Skype, foursquare

    Some common features:
    1. bedside clock
    2. app interoperability/integration especially around contacts both local contacts on contacts from online services
    3. third-party app notifications

May be I didn't read the post right. But it seems to ask if you would buy a phone running OS2.1 as it is on the PB but with native BBM added. Did I get it right?

Since PB 4G (is it 4G?) Is comin out, very possible those. Are comin!

But some of them really should be here anyway for wifi usage

    1. I use flipclock
    2. I'd like to see that too... But then I have my current hs for that and deleting emails on 2 platforms is a right pain in the arse.. But then again if the pb/phone replaced my
Current handset sure I'd be grand.

    3. Notifications, I get messages for blaq that suits me rightly
