On time. It's not just a jazzy catch phrase in the trucking industry. It's an absolute necessity. Kinda like breathing. If ya want to live, you gotta keep breathing. To keep your company alive, you gotta be on time.

Today I'm gonna let you greenhorns (noobs) in on a secret. How do us drivers make sure we get there on time? A Rand McNally Motorcarriers road atlas, a calculator, a notepad, and an intimate knowledge of Interstate highways and US highways. Or, at least that's how we used to do it, back when cellphones weren't smart.

Apps are rated from one gear to ten gears, with one meaning "don't use this app even if they pay ya", and ten meaning "if you don't have this app yet, you need some serious head shrinkin".

Howdy hands, it's Monday again, and I'm on my way to Armpit, USA (New Jersey). I got me another load in Chocolate Town (Hershey, PA), so I'll be hualin Dispacther Brains (Empty trailer) when I pay the "Lemme outta Jersey" tax.

I gotta tell ya, all the bears (police) I see with customers (people pulled over by police) makes me wonder if anyone knows anything about Trapster, a handy app for BlackBerry, but also for Android and iPhone's too. Now, drivin a rig means I don't get the privilege of using a Bird dog (radar detector), it's against Federal law for me to even posses one in my truck. But that's why I have been using Trapster.

So what does Hypoxia do? Is it just another media player? Well, yes and no. It is a media player, it'll play audio and video, as well as slide shows. But when ya get into the media sharing part of Hypoxia, that's where the rubber hits the road.

A few details of RIM's first QNX smartphone have leaked out, and it looks like the release for this device may be delayed right out of the gate. RIM is famous for their device battery life, and unparalleled device security. However, RIM has had to delay native email support for its first QNX device, the Playbook, because it did not play well with BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Rewriting it's Enterprise software has proven a challenge, and integrating a smartphone with QNX would be even more challenging.

45,000 Verizon Communications, Inc workers have gone on strike, after labor talks with the wireline carrier failed Saturday. Originally set to expire at midnight on Saturday, Aug. 6th, workers rejected the contract changes that Verizon was seeking. Verizon executive vice president of human resources, Mark C. Reed, called the outcome of talks "regrettable", after workers rejected over 100 concesions regarding health care, pensions, and work rules. "We will continue to do our part to reach a new contract that reflects today's economic realities in our wireline business and addresses the needs of all parties," he said in a statement.

"Even at the 11th hour, as contracts were set to expire, Verizon continued to seek to strip away 50 years of collective bargaining gains for middle-class workers and their families," said the Communications Workers of America.

Even though almost a quarter of Verizon's work force went on strike, the wireline and internet provider has a fallback plan. "Tens of thousands of Verizon managers and other personnel have been trained to step in and perform emergency work assignments," Verizon spokesman Rich Young said.

We will continue to monitor the situation, and bring you new developments as they happen.

When I first heard about IM+, my first thought was “Oh great, another IM client”. Then I loaded it up on my Torch, and within a few hours, I deleted my longtime IM client, and haven’t looked back since. There was a learning curve, but what do you expect with an app that has more features than you're used to? However, the learning curve is a small one, it took just an hour or so to get familiar with all the features that Shape Services managed to fit into IM+.
