Developers that were not able to meet the deadline for RIM's Built for BlackBerry incentive program now have a little more time to squeeze out a few more apps. RIM's Last Chance Port-A-Thon yielded over 19,000 apps this past weekend; this and the overwhelming response to the Built for BlackBerry program prompted RIM to extend the deadline.
In a statement from RIM's VP of developer relations, there are several new dates that developers should take note of:
- Apps that have been submitted on or before 8pm EST on January 21st,2013 may qualify for the $10k Developer Commitment if the developer agrees to the official terms and conditions and passes Built for BlackBerry testing.
- Developers may apply for Built for BlackBerry review and the $10k Developer Commitment offer in the BlackBerry World Vendor Portal by 8pm ET Feb 18th
- The qualifying sale dates for the 10k Commitment is 12:01am ET, March 4 2013 to 11:59pm ET, March 3 2014
RIM's incentive programs have produced a wealth of new apps. The company's "Port-A-Thons" have produced more than 30,000 apps, and the recently re-branded BlackBerry World application store front is expected to have over 100,000 apps available upon launch of BlackBerry 10 devices.
