Discuss: RIM Extends Deadline For Built For BlackBerry

Developers that were not able to meet the deadline for RIM's Built for BlackBerry incentive program now have a little more time to squeeze out a few more apps. RIM's Last Chance Port-A-Thon yielded over 19,000 apps this past weekend; this and the overwhelming response to the Built for BlackBerry program prompted RIM to extend the deadline.

In a statement from RIM's VP of developer relations, there are several new dates that developers should take note of:

    • Apps that have been submitted on or before 8pm EST on January 21st,2013 may qualify for the $10k Developer Commitment if the developer agrees to the official terms and conditions and passes Built for BlackBerry testing.
    • Developers may apply for Built for BlackBerry review and the $10k Developer Commitment offer in the BlackBerry World Vendor Portal by 8pm ET Feb 18th
    • The qualifying sale dates for the 10k Commitment is 12:01am ET, March 4 2013 to 11:59pm ET, March 3 2014

RIM's incentive programs have produced a wealth of new apps. The company's "Port-A-Thons" have produced more than 30,000 apps, and the recently re-branded BlackBerry World application store front is expected to have over 100,000 apps available upon launch of BlackBerry 10 devices.

That's awesome. THe only real problem is, that, it you don't pass the the built for blackberry from the first try, you won't have enough time. After all those prot'a'thons, the app review time increased drastically. E.g., my app was reviewed for more, than 10 days. And it'sstill in the process of built for blackberry review. Support told, that it'd possibly take another week. So, basically, you've got jsut a single chance to pass for these programs.

    Yes, review times extremely slow!

Sorry for being dull, but how do you actually qualify for the 10K commitment? And is that PER APP or PER DEVELOPER?
