BlackBerry Media Codecs
I seek some info/feedback, to support my BlackBerry-related developments. I made a simple application called MediaDetector, which will display information about the supported audio/video codecs of the smartphone it runs on. If a few of you would be kind enough to install it and send the output, or the screenshot of the output back here, it'd be most helpful.
The application doesn't connect to the network, nor digs into any kind of data on your phone. It doesn't use any secure APIs either. It mostly uses example code from the multimedia-related parts of the BlackBerry JDE.
It's available from here:
Index of /software/blackberry/mediadetector
Or to ease the installation on your phone:
The output of the app should look like this:
To be a bit more specific, I look for the output of the app from the following devices (in order of importance): 9800 Torch, 9670 Style, 9780 Bold, 9300 Curve 3G and 9105 Pearl 3G.
If you don't want to post your output here, you can also send it to this e-mail address:
chainq68k (at) gmail.com
Thanks for your help.
Here's the screenshot from my Torch
Good luck with whatever you're doing, hope it helps.
Yes, excellent, it's very helpful. Many thanks. (And as the screenshot says, it should be possible to support the Torch's multimedia features in the app I'm working on! Yay!)
I've got a Torch as well, if you want I can run it (even though EpicWalrus - Awesome name btw! Lol - has one also).
@ShimmyShine: Thanks for the offer, if it's not much trouble for you it'd be great to try. To see if there's any difference in the results (apart from the software/platform version, which is normal if you have a different bundle installed of course). But there shouldn't be any difference, really.
I hope some people with other devices on my wishlist will appear soon and post some results. :)
I have a Storm2 9550 and Curve 8520 on standby if you need, but judging from the devices you're asking for, I guess you need devices that run OS6? I might be getting a Curve 9300 in 3 weeks, if nobody has submitted one for that yet I'll gladly help. I have a friend with Bold 9700 on OS6 if you need, and thanks Shimmy Shine :D (Too bad awesome names don't usually win prizes xD)
@EpicWalrus: Thanks, I've access to most of the other somewhat recent devices not on my list, including the ones you have. OS6 is not a requirement, I target OS5 as well, the list with mostly OS6 devices only means I can't afford all the new devices running OS6, but I still want to be sure my app will support as many of them as possible. :)
Anyway, I'm *very* curious about the results on a 9300, so please post, after you get the device.
Hey, tell me what devices you want explicitly and I'll throw up a FP story saying you need some help :) This should get you the info you need!
That would be so awesome ShimmyShine :D
Hello Epic Walrus, welcome to BBOS. BTW, that Walrus looks like that guy Jamie from the show Mythbusters. Any relation? :)
Uh, that's a very generous offer, thanks. I don't want to cause troubles and during the past days I also got some nice feedback via some other channels. I also managed to test some of the devices (9300 and 9105) in a local store, who were kind enough to allow me a quick test. (Both devices have checked out.)
But well, here's my current, revised, shorter wishlist:
- 9330 Curve 3G (CDMA Edition)
- 9670 Style
- 9780 Bold
The 9330 would be especially nice, as Hungary, like most European countries don't have CDMA networks and devices.
And here's my current blacklist. Devices, which won't be supported, because the lack of required media features (It's not an OS, but hardware issue, an update won't solve it): all 8xxx series devices and earlier, all 95xx Storm devices (I'm really, really sad about these and haven't given up yet, but they need some serious work), 9630 Tour, 9650 Bold.
@Joseph: Thanks! Glad to be here :D And yes that walrus was made to look like Jamie from Mythbusters xD The words on it actually read "OH GOD! ADAM! ADAM HELP ME! CALL THE DOCTOR!" but I guess its too small :/
@Chain Q: Glad that you got the info for Curve 9300 already. 9780 just realeased in my country, so I don't know anyone who has it yet, but now I'm deciding between a new Curve 9300, Bold 9780 or a Iphone 4 :O I'll only decide after I go to the store in about 3 weeks. If you still need the codecs for 9780 by then I'll help glady help you out. :D
lol, I love that show, and nice avatar, the resemblance is striking!
I just got the Bold 9780, do you still need it Chain-Q?
@EpicWalrus: Sorry for the delay, I just noticed your reply. Yes, I still need the output from a 9780.
@Chain-Q: Hey, been really busy lately sorry, haven't been checking the forums. I'll get and upload it by tonight :)
