    Desktop software?

BlackBerrys have Desktop Manager Winmo has active sync, what will the Droid have? Well if this video is any indication looks like Motorola is working on that. Seems to have a few bugs but the maker of the video says it will be shipping with the phone. I am interested in seeing how the back up of the phone works through this?

i guy at verizon told me (yeah...i know) that all the settings for the phone could be backed up wirelessly... so if you got a replacement phone all you had to do was some kind of restore and all your goodies and settings would be there.

but what i understood was that it wouldn't be backed up on your pc...it would be backed up on a cloud.

Yeah that is what I took from it as well. Hopefully we would have the choice? I do like the idea of a separate server to back up to as well, but I prefer my stuff a little closer to home.

It would make sense that everything would be backed up to Google, since this is supposed to be a pure-Google Experience device.

If it's like the Palm Pre I had, all backups are wireless. When you reactive/restore a device, you simply log in (required during the restore process) and it downloads all of your data, apps, etc. It's actually pretty sweet. BUT, and that is a BIG BUT...like Olta said above, software issues are yours to deal with until a fix is released. At least the Pre was Linux based and there were hacks galore. The only issue with that is once you received an update to the OS, some hacks still worked, others didn't. If you didn't have a patch system in place (which was spotty as well) you would spend hours re-entering your changes. If you weren't comfortable with Linux, you just didn't do it.

Hopefully the Droid will live up to the hype. The only interest I have are the 5MP camera and the "DVD-like recording quality". That remains to be seen. But then again I have a $2,000 digital camera setup for those kinds of things.

Bryan, are you really jumping ship?

Pretty sure it's a download from Motorola's Web site. I know I saw something to download a week or so ago when the Droid was "Live" for a few hours. On my Storm now so I can't confirm since that site is Flash based.
