Thread: droid has been rooted!

These are the instructions...

Download the zip file
Rename to "update.zip" and copy to the sdcard

Power off the DROID and power back on while holding the X key
When you see a "/!\" symbol, press both vol+ and camera
Use the onscreen menu to install update.zip

Once installed you will be able to run "su" from your adb shell.

Is this for 2.01?

2.0 as far as i know...it's not a full root but just a starting point. i don't understand all the details just repeating some stuff i've read.

Just for 2.0. 2.01 is the maintenance update that was released to a mere 10,000 people last night. 200,000 more on the 10th.

The rooting simply allows access to the device so that it can be modified (appearance, apps, etc.)

It's like advanced user settings from what I understood...but the process itself is something I am learning

It is ... but most of the changes are in linux so it's not simply a matter of changing a toggle to show x, or y. A LOT of the changes are one or two lines of code that can be added or removed, but some of them require a fairly large change to the file structure.

USUALLY there are tutorials online for almost anything you want to do.
