Ringtones and notifications

Found this info on an android forum, though ti might be useful.

For CALLER ringtones you may already know that creating a "rintone" folder on the SD card (and filling it with MP3s) will show up in your ringtone list.

But for MMS SMS and EMail Notifications,the mp3s in the ringtone folder wont show up.
Create a folder on your SD card called "notifiations" and it will do the same for your mms sms and email ringtone list!

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEW file structure that will let you do the above ASWELL as add alarms!

On your SD card Create the following file structure:

Media (in root of SD card)

----- Audio (in the Media folder)

--------- Ringtones (in Audio folder)
--------- Notifications (in Audio folder)
--------- Alarms (in Audio folder)

Now just Drag n Drop your favs into the folder where you will be using it, or ALL of them (like i do) and they will appear in the default lists. No app required !!!

Dont worry, you can still use "DROOOID" (i do!! )... but you have unlimited others to add now!

Thanks for the tip, Drukan!!! Great to know. I am still figuring out all the secrets of organizing media on my sd card on eris :D

from my understanding this should work for all the android phones. they all read the SD filesystem the same way.

I am assuming so...as the concept is the same...the only difference is 1.5 vs 2.. oh and the lovely sense UI...which eris has...and will be updated to 2 eventually. :)

I'm using the "Rings Extend" free app and it lets you select any sound. Granted I will follow your naming structure (why scroll through all my music right) so thanks for the heads-up! ;)

Didnt know there was "an app for that"... heh ...

But personally i think it would be easier not to use one. One more app to setup...

Im also testing the theory on "wallpaper" folder. IE: long press on homescreen gives u the WALLPAPER setting, then asks Gallery or Wallpaper gallery? that way u can set you wallpapers in their own folder vs scrollin through all your pix.

SCRATCH THAT THEORY... NO GO...

Great find...Now My eris is Complete for now til 2.0 upg. Got custom sounds for sms,both email (gmail)(yahoo), contacts sms, ringtone.....woooooohooo:hail::hail::hail::hail::h ail:

I agree... thats one thing i loved about my S1... i knew who was txt'n me, and i knew whether or not to bother lookin at it.
BUT... right now i dont care i just love hearin.. "DROOOOID"... i dont think ill ever get tired of that! :cool:

I followed your instructions and it didn't work. The only confusion was the root of the SD card. I just made the media folder along side all of the other folder that came on the card. Not sure if that is the root or not

I posted this in the Android/Applications forum. I was surprised I noticed how to do it... See if it's clear enough to understand. :)

I figured out how to set separate SMS contact sounds using Handcent SMS.

In an SMS to a contact. In the upper right corner of the thread/message window is a button with shapes of a person & a gear. This is where you setup the app for the contact under "Notification Settings". The contact & phone number will be the title of the window at this point. :cool:

Yes, sounds like you're in the right spot. The root level is the first level of a drive (think of a tree root=bottom).

as already said.. the ROOT, is the drive its self as seen in windows. so putting the MEDIA folder right in there with the other folders u have IS the right step. then inside the media is the AUDIO, then inside that are the other 3...

Hope ya got it all workin...

It didn't work, but I have Rings Extended so I can just use that....
