    HTC Eris OS discussion

I am real interested in HTC eris...Played with droid and eris...and know for sure that no droid for me

So...here is my question: Will HTC eris be updated to android 2.0 or 2.1 later down the road? Is that even a possibility?

Also, let's have this thread for nice OS features...rumors of leaks , etc

Yes the Eris OS can be updated. Rumor has it though it won't be getting 2.0 until 2010 were the Droid could be seeing 2.1 by the end of the year

Josh is correct it can and will be updated next year some time.

So far in talking with Josh he has the Droid I have the Eris.

He has the compatibility to select multiple emails in both Gmail and other mail. Then choose delete or mark all. On the Eris you don't have that which is a bummer when you first sync your email over as you have to go through and mark each one read.

But after that it isn't a big deal as I keep up on my email (hence owning a smart phone)

Having 7 screens I thought was overkill but I am finding out in less then 1 day of use it is great to have them! I am filling them up fast with all the apps and widgets you can install.

Eris is slower between program switching than the Droid but not enough to write home about, about on par with the Storm IMO.

Eris doesn't have a built in task killer like the Droid --- But there is an app for that

I don't know it is a tough choice for me. I feel I am missing out with 2.0 but I love the look and fell of the Eris.

At least I use the right grammer.... but IMHO you can upgrade when 2.0 comes out to all devices.. if I had to get one would be the Eris

Am actually thinking of gettin with Eris as well. I've got the droid and I dont think its for me considering I came from S2..It seem like the Eris is more Ideal with form factor and all..Do you know if you can set custom sms tones for contacts as well as sms tone for system. I cannot do that so far w/Droid and thats killing me. I cant even set an alert for voicemail or alarm either. S2, I did all that. Droid is Rediculously fast though and tons of apps are free. I've d/l a lot of apps on the Droid free that i purchased for S2..That's a plus

I got the moto the first day it came out and the next day I had to change to the Eris ... the fact that the Eris its a little slower then the moto doesn't bother me I'm happy with it! Love the feel and look of the Eris, I did miss the option of marking all emails as read but its all good now

Alright, so now I have a few more questions:

-Wifi "capable"....what does that mean? Do I need an additional data plan or an app?

-Processor is Qualcomm MSM7600, 528MHz....isn't that same as on storm? (yes, may be a dumb question )

-Will this processor handle 2.0 OS just fine?

...or the painful question: Should I still wait for Passion?

I was thinking about it but then so far the only difference I saw between the Passion and the Eris is the processor, looks like the memory will be the same so I won't replace the Eris for the passion.

Pretty significant difference in the processor though.

I wonder how the battery life will be... But if the HD2 is an indicator, then I don't think we should have battery issues with the Snapdragon 1 Ghz and HTC.

    Cool Eris

With all these android phones coming out I don't know why I bought my bb tour with an outdated OS in July!? If only I had some more patience!! What are your thoughts on BB vs. Android os?

Dont want to take credit for this..but I forgot which member here hooked me up...Its in the "custom sound' thread that I started....Checkout Ring Extender(if available as an app for Eris). It works great w/Droid. An able to select my own tone for Sms amd email...

There really is not comparison IMO Android blows BB out of water. That being said if I was still working at my old company I would have stuck with BlackBerry just for the instant email push for all email. That is the only downfall (right now) that I can find running the Eris.

The OS itself is like night and day compared to BB, to me it is more user friendly and easier to navigate.

I have a question for all android users.. do you have more than your gmail account on there.. and if so how is the battery life with the "pull" email?
