    droid ongoing review

sorry...not too much to say but WOW

this thing is slick as crap. downloading apps is truly a joy. some of the apps i was wondering if i was going to miss from blackberry were easily found with a search and downloaded in seconds. the sports tap is great and so far a huge upgrade from score mobile. my banking app i was woried about losing was found and downloaded in seconds. a bible app(don't read it near enough) i found is great. downloaded weatherbug and weather channel...might delete one later but both look pretty nice...WB looks just like the BB version. found a nice tip calculator.....off to play more.....

one other note, the camera focus is a little disappointing so far. takes 2 or 3 tries to focus but once it does the pics look great. i put the focus on infinity instead of auto focus and it takes good pics instantly

Sounds good Cat :fing02: tell me this (since I am waiting for mine to ship to me) how is receiving and making calls. I believe Jlevy said the hard buttons don't operate the phone, so I am curious as to how you like that?

just made my first call just for you....call quality was excellent on both ends

making calls is cool...in contacts you can set your favorites so most called folks are easy to find....touch their pic and it gives you a list of communication options available...touch the tele pic and connect....no phone hard buttons but do you really need them?i don't.

Your killing me Cat :aargh4: Can't wait for my phone to get here. So how is the market? UI and choices wise? A good selection of free vs paid apps?

the market is super (disclaimer: i didn't use BB app world so i can't compare)

apps are super easy to find and download in seconds...i mean like 10 seconds give or take for the ones that i have downloaded so far. i have only downloaded free stuff so far. there is a bunch and the ones i have downloaded look cool. the sportstap is super cool...i just hope it updates scores fast. i'll test that out tomorrow.

Thanks for the early review Cat!

I was hoping that the droid would turn out to be the real deal....I'm fed up with my Storm...after constantly trying to find the "Gold" code for my Storm, I've determined that there's not ever going to be one.....

I will wait for my 1 year upgrade option at the end of January, or until Verizon makes an official early upgrade available to Storm users...then I'm off to something else....sounds like the droid may be it.....

gotta find out for sure if the droid will work on my company's exchange server.....

How about the email issues that have been floating around out there? Some people have been saying there is quite a delay and also problems connecting to Exchange acct.

email delay for gmail was total bunk....all other accounts are pulled every 5 minutes i think. i only use gmail and have all other emails funneled to gmail so i can only speak for gmail.

Cat I am curious about something and I hope you can help me out.

I was thinking to the email lag time video Sal posted vs what you have experienced. I know you say around 10 seconds for gmail to arrive on the phone. Can you hook your phone up to wifi and test it? He was running on wifi and I wonder if that was the underlining issue??

Good point Bryan. The lag I had on gmail was when connected to wifi. I never tested it alone just on the vzw network.

of course it doesn't have BBM but it does have most other kinds of chat....msn,yahoo,google,twitter....haven't loaded any vids yet but the screen is stunning...i'm assuming vids will depend on the quality that you use to convert and such

very interesting bryan....i haven't used wifi but i set it up just to test your theory... i tried it the first time and it took about 2 minutes...on the second try it was about 10 seconds just like 3g...may have been a hiccup on the first try
