really going to take a hard look at the droid, as my 1 year is up at the end of January....

I wouldn't consider myself a "power user" but obviously want a phone that will handle my business needs....

I'd be interested in finding out what you mean by the email not being a pleasant experience and what business users might find unacceptable on the droid....since you've had hands on experience with both of these phones your input would be most appreciated....

Ok I am going to have fun picking this thing apart.

First off I ran the exact same website test with my Storm 2, and maybe I am just in a bettter coverage area than he is I dunno but my storm 2 rendered that page just as fast as the Droid did in that video. Anyone doubt me I will post a video. Actually I just timed it, it took a grand total of 14 seconds to render that page.

Second in his typing test he goes to type out This is a test and this guy does not seem like he is a great typer with either phone, but it is pretty clear that he does not even come close to hitting the TY key. It was kinda sad really.

And as others have noted he was totally wrong on the customization of the home screen as you can have 1,2, or 3 lines and that is only with the Precision Zen theme. I had a theme for my Storm 1 called Dark Black that had 2 rows with 8 icons total and then a rotating set of 5 different apps. You could actually spin them on the screen.

RIM seriously needs to get Plazmic 5.0 out to the developers as the Zen theme that has been more or less around since the launch of the Bold is just plain FUGLY.

Get a clue RIM. Get Plazmic out.

This review showed me nothing as the reviewer was more biased toward the Droid and in my opinion did not know a whole lot about either device.

I liked the comparison of the Droid and Storm 2. This comparison confirmed my experience with my Storm 1(I don't have a Storm 2). The ability for the Storm to access and navigate webpages is slow and frustrating at times. His Storm 2 appeared to download webpages at similar speeds as my Storm 1. I like everything about the Storm except the internet experience. Hopefully the next version of the Storm will have the Torch OS, and possibly faster processor(if needed) to make the Storm work as fast as the Droid or iPhone.

I have tried several other browsers like Opera Mini and Bolt. They are faster at rendering a webpage, but for me they don't work as seemlessly with the Storm such as bringing up the keypad, etc. I know the Opera Mini doesn't use Java, which I need to access my online Credit Union account. The most recent version of the Opera Mini I tried had the text so small that it was difficult to read for me. Yes, I am older(61 years old). I just want my Storm to work well as a phone, camera/video recorder, and access the internet almost as well as my PC. I don't want or need any games, themes, or funny apps.

I also don't like having to exchange or upgrade phones needlessly. I can't see paying more for the Storm 2 right now(even if they offer an upgrade for $179). I don't want to be committed to another 2 year contract in case I want to go back to AT&T. As a side note, I don't like the cost of having to change cases, car holders, chargers, etc. if the phone changes physically in size slightly.

This is not a rant, just my experience with my Storm and why I probably will not go to the Storm 2 or Droid, unless RIM or Verizon offers upgrades for virtually nothing. I will wait for the next Storm, at about the time my contract expires.

Keep in mind the reviewer is a self proclaimed iPhone user. However, that being said, he did a comparison between the iPhone 3GS and the Storm 2 and pretty much gave it a draw.

Regarding email: the Droid only supports push email with Gmail. For all other pop or imap accounts you are forced to use pull. I had it set on 5 minutes to pull my other accounts and only 1 of the 4 accounts I had set up actually pulled any email whatsoever. So I had to perform a force pull my in order to get my email at all on 3 of the 4 accounts. On the other account that did pull it did so at the 20 minute mark.

I don't care how pretty an email looks if I don't receive it. Because of my job I need real time information and don't have time to futz around with did my email come or not.

For the typical business user the Droid won't be able to touch the Storm 2 in the same way the iPhone doesn't come close. Email on the Droid, after using it for a bit, was rather unpleasant just as the iPhone experience is blah with email. Where if Blackberry does one thing right it is email. I also found the keyboard experience on the Droid to not be to my liking. The touch screen version is micro and for my large hands I couldn't get any accuracy. Perhaps that would change with more practice but I thought the same of the Tour and that never happened. The Storm 2 keyboard is light years ahead of where Storm 1 is. It really is a pleasant experience both in suretype and landscape mode. After having the Storm 2 for a little while know I average about 65wpm. And since I typically have to respond to 100+ emails the experience on the Storm is far superior IMO.

The Droid to me is a cool gadget phone more suited for the consumer. It has a nice browser, you can customize the crap out of it and it has a very cool built in google maps application. But are those things I need or really care about, no, not really. The Droid to me is more in line with the iPhone and if I wanted a gadget consumer phone the iPhone IMO is a better experience. But at the end day it will come down to personal preference and what each user is interested in. As a business user I would not be happy with the Droid as it just doesn't do enough things right. Don't get me wrong the Droid is a nice device, it just didn't win me over to switch from a BB.

    awesome thoughts thanks for sharing!!!

    Nice Web Browser

I have to say, I've been on the fence about either getting the Storm2 or the Droid. After actually getting the Storm2 and seeing videos like this. I am back on the side of Blackberry. It is unbelievable how much the screen and OS improvements make you feel about the phone. The OS on the droid looks fast but it isn't that nice looking to me. The reviewer makes a great point in saying that the droid has a better browser experience but hell an LG Env touch probably does too. lol. When all is said and done I think this battle will come down to the hardware. Nobody can touch RIM's messaging infastructure, if the they can reinvent their web browser we might actually have a crowned touch screen king for VZW. Hopefully within my lifetime. Also lets not forget that this Droid phone is made by Motorola, who in my opinion make the worst smart phones in the world. I think the OS on it will make up for a lot of that but as far as having a reliable, durable, stable phone I will stick with my Storm2 and Opera mini 4.2 until beta 5 works properly. The review that could put me on the fence again is the MEDIA PLAYER comparison. I want grid view album art and or scroll. Also, where's a decent desktop media player that will sync photos and videos? RIM, Google just make your own! If you can make sweet mobile OS's why cant you make a decent piece of desktop software to help you drive those sales!? BTW, jst tryed group mesusaging with BBM today, it rocks! We are now going to implement it at work for our sales team!

Okay that's my piece, first post!! Yay! Thanks Bryan for setting me up
