With Avatar Animator for BBM and Create Animated BBM Avatar, you'll be on your way to creating that customized avatar you have never been able to capture. In a attempt to ride on the BeBold tagline and promote BlackBerry native features, RIM has released a couple short video demos of BlackBerry Messenger and Browser on the new BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 device. Good to see RIM continuing the commercial promotion of BlackBerry 7 as we work our way to the super BlackBerry 10 OS. What do you think about the videos, yea? or nay?

BlackBerry Messenger has been updated to version 6.2.0.40 in the Beta Zone. Honestly not much to see here folks, but as always you will want to update and let RIM know your fixes and findings. There is a known issue that you will want to take note of:

    • Clicking the trackpad in the inline display name or personal message field opens the "My Profile" screen for right-to-left languages.

Head on over to the Beta Zone and update to version 6.2.0.40.

Alec Saunders, Senior VP of Developer Relations at RIM, has gotten a lot of attention in the media over the last 24 hours about some tweets he wrote regarding sideloading apps on future builds of the PlayBook OS. Today, he has released a statement to clarify those tweets and reassure the developer community that sideloading is not going anywhere as a dev tool, but simply being modified to prevent piracy.

In a new blog post on the Inside BlackBerry Dev Blog, Saunders explains how starting with the next build on the PlayBook (we're assuming a 2.0.1.xxxx build) there will be a new feature implemented that will encrypt purchased apps to prevent them from being shared with non-paying parties.

This is great news for devs as not only will they not lose a valuable tool, but will also gain more security over where their apps are being loaded.

Since I decided to start reading the Hunger Games books on my BlackBerry, after the awesome sale they had, the Kobo app has been getting a good work out. I definitely feel it has needed some bug fixes to address some zooming/scrolling issues and it seems like this new update might address that.

Kobo v4.2.1 is available in App World now so if you're an avid reader, make sure you update Kobo right away.

The native IM clients that are said to be very famous in instant messaging received their update today. Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and Google Talk all received an update to v.3.0.0.19, and it seems like a major update considering a big jump from the previous v.2.5.125.

However, there were no change logs provided with these new versions, so kindly let us know anything you will find with these IM clients. Head over the App World and get the updates, and if they aren't showing, please remember to refresh your list cache by pressing ALT R+S+T. Hit the break for the download links.
