Official: OS 7.1.0.163 for BlackBerry Torch 9850 From Sprint

The wait for OS 7.1 is finally over. Earlier in the day we posted that Sprint users were starting to receive OTA's of the new OS 7.1, but there was no official desktop installer. Sprint has now posted the desktop installer for the Torch 9850 OS 7.1.0.163. So if you have a Torch 9850 get out that USB device and give your device a fresh new OS. As always be sure to let us know your findings/fixings.

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Ok, what I've noticed so far with this OS 7.1 release...

- Apps seem to load a bit faster and overall feel seems a bit zippier. Not by a lot.
- Boot time is still the same, pretty slow.
- Keyboard is a bit different. When typing email addresses it now has a @ symbol where the space bar is, and there is a .com button now. Very convenient.
- Now have mobile hotspot but have not tried it yet. I'll report more on this when I've tested it more.
- Pictures load very fast now.
- New 'Emergency Alert' Email Icon.
- Browser seems faster and videos load faster as well.

Overall the 7.1 OS a step in the right direction. I'll post more when I've had a couple days to be with it.

7.1.0.163 has some really nice features but my battery life has been VERY poor. I performed the update using Desktop Manager allowing it to move my apps, etc., automatically without a wipe.

I'm going to try a wipe and load this morning and install my apps independently and see if that fixes this. I can't have the phone not make it through half a day on a charge.

OK, wipe and re-load from scratch seems to have fixed the battery problems I was experiencing.

Yea, I've been good on battery. I can get by the entire day on one charge with a couple hours of talk time.

issues with I believe, is the update

What I have noticed so far. I have the Sprint version of the 9850. Me likey. Now.... I use the feature Vlingo to do my texting if my fingers are feeling a bit tired. Well Vlingo won't record my voice anylonger. I uninstalled then re installed. Same issues. So I tried other voice search features. Same thing. I got a message, "voice recorder did not record your voice, please try again." .NEXT.. Bb app world is now freezing.. NEXT...it is taking me entirely to long to send this message because by the time I'm on my forth word, the letters haven't been displayed all the way for the first. I called Sprint, they want me to bring the phone in so they can un install the update till they fix the issues. Reason I think its the update is, no issue did I have untill after it was installed.

Interesting, I'm not getting any typing issues. Have you tried going back a OS and then reinstalling 7.1 again?

No, I didn't. But I guess that's a thing to do. Only thing I'm gonna miss about this new update is the .com button lol....

Hours have past...............

ok im home and i did the reinstall of the original 7.0 then re installed the update...(update no good for me) still acting up......So i went back with original version and all is well now.............i wonder if they will come out with another update anytime soon. this one didn't seem to agree with my phone. so far all my voice commands have returned, the messaging has cleared up. but i think (as odd as it is) im gonna miss the .com button :(

I love the .com button myself. Very handy.

I've noticed that too. And it seems like the longer duration the device is not used, the worst the delay is.

Yup....it seems that either the os or the hardware can not manage the random access memory so the reaction of the 9850 is very very very slow.
