"Communication Failure" On Official: OS 7.1.0.428 For BlackBerry Torch 9810 From Telstra
Hi all,
Hoping i can get some assistance. I am an experienced Blackberry user (BES configuration) and gone through many handsets over the past 10 years (8707, 9000, 9105, 9700, 9780, 9800, 9810).
I was looking forward to the 9800 which was a let down due to the slow CPU, insufficient memory and terrible browser. My faith in RIM isn't as strong as it once was.
Two months ago came my 9810 (OS7.0 as standard) purchased outright - despite the hardware and software improvements, the handset doesn't perform as well as I had expected. On a positive note, BES more than adequately handles my 500+ emails (and attachments) per day and I haven't experienced the so called 'battery issues'.
The 9810 holds network coverage better than previous Blackberries I've owned and almost always has stronger coverage than my personal phone (iPhone 4) which is also on Telstra.
I upgraded to the official OS7.1 and this is when the relationship became rocky! I am a Blackberry advocate, but struggle to see how RIM will survive in the 'new era' of smart phones when their once 'pioneering methodologies' and now antiquated.
My handset did not automatically acknowledge the updated OS (I had to manually downloaded the file). Since the upgrade, the following issues have presented;
1. Continuous 'uncaught exception' errors;
2. Phone performance is worse and full reboot time has increased;
3. Tethering doesn't work;
4. App World is now even more pointless due to performance issues and app availability and incompatibility;
5. My biggest issue - internet browsing is a chore as the handset simply doesn't do anything more times than not. Pages time-out or I receive the dreaded 'communication failure' error.
Extensive trouble shooting has been performed (obtained new sim card, restored default settings, uninstalled apps, battery pulls & confirmed no network outages) the end result is the same - NO IMPROVEMENT! Even when reverting to Wi-Fi, the internet browser result is the same!
The connectivity/communication issue effects web browsing, selected apps (app world, maps, facebook, just to mention a few) but does not limit performance when emailing or sending/receiving large attachments.
Please help as if the issues can't be resolved, my organisation will fast track the implementation of iPads and iPhones and discontinue Blackberries and Next-G wireless Broadband modems.
I don't want to 'break up' with my Blackberry and I will value your feedback and support.
Thanks in advance
