Well...install went smoothly. Didn't notice any major differences. However...my torch now experiences some significant hang-ups when entering text in emails, texts, IMs, and so on. Also, my battery is expiring much more quickly with this build. I'll be reverting to at least 6.0.0.500. Hope others have more positive outcomes.

Thanks for the feedback. Did you do a couple battery pulls to see if that would help jar the OS a bit?

    Still trying...

I did several battery pulls...no luck. The text lag can be significant at times...but is still more of a bother than a real problem. The battery drain is my real concern.

Instead of reverting to an older OS...I'm first doing a BBSAK device wipe and clean install to see if that helps. I hate giving up and reverting. Feels too much like failure.

All applications worked as they should, however, I don't use many of the most popular apps...like Facebook, Twitter, etc. But the ones I do use worked correctly.

So, working on the wipe / reinstall now. I'll keep you posted with updates.

So...I performed a complete device using BBSAK. Prior to that of course, I backed up my Torch using Desktop Manager, and third party apps using BBSAK.

After performing the device wipe, I also removed and formatted my micro sd card...just in case there were unwanted remnants lingering. I performed a clean install of this OS. I have to say...so far so good. The text lags seem to have been mostly resolved. Can't report on battery life yet since this is day one following the aforementioned operation.

I'll post again with more results...but all looks promising for now.

Did you reload v570 or did you downgrade like you were thinking about? It sounds like you reloaded v570. If so, I am eagerly awaiting your views.

    Thanks
I reloaded v570. Didn't want to give up on it so soon. So far things seem to be stable. There is still an occasional lag when entering text...but that could be an issue with just my phone. Not bad enough to abort version.

Battery has been acceptable today, but still not as good as with the previous OS version...can't recall the number...500, 534...I've been through all of them.

Radio signal is strong and reliable in this 570 build. Again, all other apps work correctly so far.

** as a note, shortly after installing 570 and rebooting, a couple battery pulls, and an overnight break, I booted up this morning at 9:00 AM EST. Been on all day, using my Torch quite a bit too... WiFi, blackberry news feeds, browser, texts, emails, a few 5 minute phone calls, and a couple of YouTube videos...mostly perusing the phone settings and menus looking for any observable OS differences. Battery saver Pro still reports 49% battery remaining after 12 hours of use. Not too shabby I suppose after all.

I entered email setup application to resend service books and was given a message that there was an available upgrade to the email setup application? That's a new one for me. I downloaded and installed the update. No noticeable differences. It struck me as odd that the latest leaked build of the OS comes with an outdated component in the email setup app? 570 Build also has outdated Appworld and BBM...but quickly recognizes that fact and offers the updates to you.

Oh well, all seems well at this point and I will be keeping 570 until the next version...barring any unforeseeable revelations.

Hope this helps someone out there! It's my first venture into posting on any boards. I figured I have been given so much advice and help over the years via these forums that it might be time to give back.

Thanks for the up date. I have found that after upgrading to a new OS, after backing up the device using DM, two to three battery pulls in th first couple of hours really does go a long way in "seating in" the download.

Yeah...part of my standard OS swap protocol after years of trying this stuff. However, I don't always do a device wipe before the procedures. I know opinions vary about that topic...but I think it's probably a good practice. Sometimes I'm just too lazy to do it! I have found that the Micro SD card can have some bearing on successful, bug free operations. They can have all kinds of remnants on them...from leftover programs, current programs, all kinds of stuff.

So from now on, all my OS swaps will involve a clean wipe and install with a formatted Micro SD also in the process....and of course...4 or 5 battery pulls throughout and following the process. Those are about the best tips I know for the most successful OS upgrades possible.

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions to everyone out there who helps!

Ok, I just did the complete format and clean install using BBSAK.
Hoping my battery now runs longer. I will post at the end of the day about the battery if the clean install helped.

    More .579 feedback

Ok...a couple days in now on version .570. After the clean install process...battery life seems to be on par with what we've grown to expect from RIM devices.

The only residual bug I experience is an occasional lag when entering text. This lag appears across all platforms where one may enter text...email, texts, IM, BBM, web pages, etc. I never had this issue before on any build so I have to assume it is native to V .570. Still not yet annoying enough to compel a downgrade for me.

OK...hope that helps someone out there! Thanks again for all the feedback.

    Thanks for that feedback.

I agree on the battery point. It's hard to get good battery life out of a BlackBerry, especially if using GPS/data. Good news is that the new devices will be coming with a bigger and stronger battery.

Alright, 24 hours now on the clean install .570 and without charging still 65% battery left
I had my Wifi enabled most of the day on purpose, and also Whatsapp and MSN. Normally I close these when not using to save battery.
Thanks wilsonjs for the information about the clean install, I am going to use this method in the future too.
