if you installed an OS that you had a great radio experience, go to the
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files
folder, open the OS folder, go into the UMTS folder and copy the SFI file, go back to the Loader Files folder and locate your current OS, open the OS folder, then the UMTS folder, first create a folder named 5.0.0.XXX (XXX=current OS), move the existing SFI file into that folder and then paste the SFI file from the OS you had good radio with and then run the loader.exe or the DM>Application Loader and you will only replace your radio and leave all else as-is. I did this for a while and still do when i find an OS i like and want to only change out the radio.
This is my first OS upgrade on the 9700 I just got the phone so I dunno what radio to use.
Sadly, i believe .656 and .586 share the same radio files.
they are named the same, does this mean they are the same?
Ok so i tried what you said, and it completely took my phone back down to .586, where ive never had before, i downloaded that for the radio file, but its exactly the same size(15.3mb) and name as the .656 one.
the only radio file that is different is the new .680, its about 19mbs,
should i update to .680 or what should i do?
whats the best radio for Tmobile? should i just ride this OS out (.586) and see if my signal is better tomorrow during the day?
Also i have NO update feature anywhere in my phone, not in options advanced or anywhere. so theres no way i can check for .714.

Like you stated above, "The real game changer will "PROBABLY", be 6.0.
There are also no visual changes. Same thing, over and over.
Sometimes i think they toy with us by just changing the version numbers. I can just picture them LTAO!!!!!! at corporate.
Just my .02. and venting a little, good thing this long weekend is here, lol.
Enjoy the weekend guys/gals.
Yes, some parts will list a lower version since you are using a different radio file. Once you move the radio file you want over, make sure the OS you want installed is the only one to be safe. I have been swapping radio files out on my my phones without an issue.

Feel back for the t-mobile users at the moment.

No idea who these "everyones" are. I have zero problems with T-Mobile. I am always on either UMA or 3G. I can't remember the last time my 9700 was on anything other than UMA or 3G.
