Oh, I didn't mean to imply that a new 4.7.1.x release would delay 5.0 until VZW felt like releasing it; if my understanding is correct; RIM has at least some say in the 5.0 matter due to BES 5.0 having extended functionality with 5.0 OSes, as well as the latest BIS.

I was just saying that I hope this interim 4.7.1.x release doesn't end up costing them so much money that they have to delay the 5.0 release until the absolute last minute, although seeing the way VZW tends to do things, it wouldn't surprise me if we're the LAST carrier to see a 5.0 official anyways.

Understood. So far with VZW I'm seeing great customer service (at least from our tech calls) BUT they take forever in the release of information.

Mule0331, the branding numbers will be different on different devices.

    Branding numbers go like this:

    1.0.XXX.YYY

the XXX denotes the carrier, 105 is Verizon.

the YYY is the revision number (likely referring to hardware revision)

so your branding is 1.0.105.166 meaning it's running on the Verizon network and is a 166 revision (not sure what that means, perhaps hardware version 1.66)

A revision 192 device on Alltel for example would be 1.0.106.192

The important numbers are the Application version and the Platform version. Aside from the vendor.xml file, an official release will be IDENTICAL to a leaked .exe of the same version. For example, when 4.7.0.148 leaked for the Storm, and later became official, there were no actual differences in the OS - if you already had the leak installed, installing the official was pointless.

Hope this helps answer your question :-)

To be honest, Verizon is known for having some of the most stringent OS testing in the industry, thus the delays between official releases. It may take them awhile to approve a release, but at least the testing isn't half-baked and non-thorough.

I haven't noticed a difference as of yet, however if there is an official release of the version you are running I would move to the official release. That's just me, but it makes sense in my world :Eyecrazy:

cool, thanks. I just saw all the numbers were the same except the last 3, and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a feature that was added at the last second, lol.
