Thread: 4.7.1.42 coming soon?

Could it be? Will it be!? BGR is reporting that 4.7.1.42 is set to be Verizons next "official" OS for the Tour. Along with reports saying Verizon, they are also saying that Sprint is also indeed set to release this update. So everyone with there newish tours, lets get them all shiny in hope of a new OS!

That would be good news. I wonder if it will fix the trackball issues many are having, that RIM claims is a software issue. Nonetheless any update is good news.

Add freezing to the trackball list and I will be a happy camper

My new one is tight and snug so I am happy about that. My first one was a little loose nothing to complain about, and it didn't cause me any issues using it. But it is nice to see them at least fixing the issues they can hardware wise IMO

Mine is snug on top but on the bottom it lifts up. Annoying

Ya, we wont see this OS from verizon as an official.

This is an interesting release. I say this because even before the Tour officially launched their was rumors of known issues with the device such as the OS freezing and trackball navigation issue and that RIM indeed was working on fix that was supposedly to launch shortly after the initial device launch. But as we all know that did not happen and well, for that matter--still hasn't happened.

So while it's nice to see some activity, it's leaves me to wonder wth was the hold up on it in the first place? RIM saving face? VZW not wanting to scare customers off with an update right out the gates? The actions of RIM and carriers baffles me at times.

Oh yeah, btw..it will not fix your battery door..nor will it enable WiFi

I didn't have the trackball issues that some had. Mine was caused by my 3 yr old throwing my phone at the ground, when I refused to watch Spongebob at:

But I did have the freezing issues quite a bit on my old one. The longest time it would freeze was 37 seconds, and that would be in random spots. Writing emails, using a 3rd party app, navigating around the screen. That was my only complaint on an other wise solid phone. So if this fixes that I will be doing my happy :dance:

I totally agree Bla1ze. I dont understand any of it. Why would they not want to have there best possible OS on there phones. RIM or Carrier. To me, there development and OS R&D are too far ahead of the Official releases. Not disrespecting, but if they are 100+ OS's ahead of Officially released, why waste the time and effort if the turn around on a Blackberry might be 2 years.

First of all, (off topic), I just wanted to sayhey all, I've been a ghost as of late. I appologize. I saw this thread and as bryan can tell you, I've had many issues with both mine and my wifes Tours. It's very frustrating if RIM knew about these issues and released the phone anyway. My phone randomly re-boots at least once a day. I dont have too awful many probs with freeze ups, but I have replaced my wifes phone already, and both of hers freezes up ALOT. I do have the trackball lag (very annoying), but my wifes does not. The camera on her first phone would give an error message when you try to open it, and her new phone the camera locked up on her at the fair today. My cam in certain lighting conditions takes a completely pink picture. It's been said several times on this site, thats it's completely amazing how 2 phones can run so differently from each other. I thought they moved past that from the Storm to the Tour, but looks like I was wrong. I hope the new release fixes the lock up problem, because if my wife calls me one more time saying her phone or Slacker is locked up one more time i'm gonna lose it, lmao. Oh well sorry for venting, but this phone has been a small disappointment so far. Again, I'm glad the site is still rolling on, and sorry for the short absence, lol.

All very good points, Bla!ze, Shane and Mule. Whether RIM is to blame or Verizon IMO is irrelevant but what I do know is the trend of releasing shotty devices with both hardware and software flaws is getting really annoying.

I guess a company only changes their mentality when they get hit, in the pocket book. I have several employees over the last two days return their Tour and ended up with the iPhone. When I asked them why, they simply said because it works, without having to use a biz card or dealing with trackballs and loose doors. My response was, good point.

The iPhone has only been around for 3 years and RIM how many. I find it troubling that Apple seems to be getting it right and RIM who are supposed to be the veterans still cannot seem to release a device without issues. I love my BB but there is just to many other good phones out there to have to play these kinds of games.

Well according to the scuttlebutt on twitter this will not be released as an official update, due to some serious bugs.

Apple can release patches immediately after their phones come out and no one gets upset, but if RIM or any other handset maker does its a problem. The reason its a problem is the Carriers. They hold things up, they botch the releases and fail to prepare their support lines for what's coming. Its time RIM took back their OS, and their balls kept in the carriers jars. Then and only then will BlackBerry users get a device they can truly be proud of 24x7x365.

Ummm wow!? I like him already!

.42 must be a minor update? And if it leaks in a month, or less, about the same time 5.0 is "official"...why bother? A friend of mine is a tech at Sprint, whose BB rep informed him of an official 5.0 release within the next 4/5 weeks. Now I know that's like saying I have a friend who knows a guy that works with a girl who used to live next to a hairdresser that cuts Steve Jobs' wife hair and SHE said blah blah blah. BUT it keeps me hopeful!!! LOL
