Thread: Verizon Tour 9630 Updated to 5.0.0.591

If you haven't seen an email from big red about the latest OS5 for your Tour, you soon will. While the OS version itself remains unchanged the platform increases from 4.2.0.272 to 4.2.0.284. This is likely to address bugs and performance issues that seem to have plagued .591 since it was released. Expect to see a desktop download soon, but for the time being if you want to update as soon as possible check for a wireless update from your device.

Since an upgrade through loader.exe or DM backs up and restores data during the process, how does this work with over-the-air upgrades? Is data lost?

Your data will be backed up during the OTA install, but as a precaution I would do a backup of your 3rd party apps and data prior to the OTA upgrade just in case.

First time I ever did an OTA install. DOn't really know what has been fixed in this one though.

Not sure either Brett. Just loaded it up on my wife's Tour. I'll let you know if anything weird pops up. I generally don't like the OTA updates since you can't shrink it down.

I did the OTA update and it seems like it takes longer than a whole OS upgrade. I guess it's hard because it goes through a lot more loading screens so it's hard to tell when it's really going to finish.
