Thread: When can we expect an OS update for Verizon 9550?

I was just wondering if anyone knows when a new official OS will be released for the 9550 for Verizon. How often do they update the software? I am just worried about putting .428 on my storm cuz I have never done it. Does it void the warranty if you put the leaked version on it?

Just a few questions and any input would be appreciated.

Re. warranty, I'm no legal expert here, but I think there is a certain risk. On the other hand - if your device is not completely destroyed when you have to call your carrier for a warranty issue, you could always go back to their latest official OS prior to doing so.

Breiti is right. No one really knows when the carrier will release a new OS. Putting a leaked version on your phone doesn't void your warrenty. You would just have to go back to the stock OS. The only thing putting a leak on does is stop you from getting support if you call in and have the OS on the phone. You can easily revert though. And welcome to bbos.

Thanks you guys. Is the .428 leak something definately worth putting on? and what is a hybrid?, do I need to run one with it?

Yes and no
.428 is a full OS - but since no official DL is available so far, it is called leak. Yet, it is a full OS where you only need to delete the vendor.xml on your PC prior to install. Imho many liked the OS, but since there are already newer versions for other devices out there, many went on to go for a hybrid. Hybrids are a combination of different OS version files generated by some very clever ppl to improve the performance of an OS.

"When can we expect an OS update for Verizon 9550?" Simple answer...when hell freezes over. Don't count on one soon. They are slow as heck getting updates out the door. You will be much better off going with 428 for now. It's a better OS.

arent there other carriers with the 9550 ? i mean, only verizon releases oficial oses for this device?

Well its warm in the Northeast and since Verizon is a Jersey based company . . . hell hasn't frozen over yet. The comment I got from support was last month, but I took that as wishful thinking and water cooler gossip. Honestly, Verizon could care less about OS updates if they can force you to buy a new phone.

428 has been the OS from Hell for my S2. I got an ongoing ringtone issue that I cannot get rid off, not to mention the battery juice guzzler. Seanren came out w/2 blazing OSs based off 428 but couldn't use it..same issue. OOAK dropped a few OSs based off 428(same issue) I've given up on 428 and am on the "Where's a new OS for S2" bandwagon...OOAK and Sean are Hybrid masters and Luv their work but for whatever reason, for me, 428 has not been nice to my S2..But I must admit and agree with a couple of comments that were made here. VZW can care less about OS releases cause its dedicated and brainwashed Customers(Like myself unfortunately ) will just get a new device when we've had enough w/a particular device..320/Build V sadly enough has been the preferred OS for my S2..Just my $.02

I was so very fortunate with my S1 from birth and all of the hybrids and never had to replace it. I bit the bullit and got the S2 and see all of the nice hybrids and V10 for S1 that I no longer use. I however now don't want to take the chance on doing anything to the S2 for fear of any problems or issues I can't afford to have. But is history has shown us anything it is that VZW takes it's time and I fear that may be the case here. But hope not.

I agree! There are TONS of leaks and hybrids for the S1. I feel like the S2 has been left behind or forgotten about. .428 gave me HUGE troubles and I hope and pray the next official OS will be a huge improvement over .428. And since we are talking VZW, it may be spring before we actually get something. A new leak would be cool with me, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

the best thing out there right now is a hybrid with .451 files from the 9500 leak, pretty good so far battery seems good memory stable great clicking...

428 is better that the official 320 IMO. I stand by my initial comment

Not everyone wants a frankenstein OS on their phone lol
