Thread: Problems updating Storm 9500 (AUS) firmware.

Hey Everyone,

I am having a couple of issues with installing a beta OS...

I have the Storm 9500 (Vodafone AUS) and have tried numerous times now to install v.5.0.0.216 firmware onto the phone...

Seems like no matter what I try, I have a nuked BB Storm. It just keeps resetting. I install it, phone works ok for 1-2minutes and then decides its time to bugger off and reset itself.

Is there something I am missing? I have tried in these methods:

-> Update through BB Desktop Manager with firmware installed onto PC
-> Update by wiping phone using BBSAK and then using AppLoader from installed firmware directory.

I am lost here, but after experiencing v.5.0.0.216 for just those couple minutes beforehand, I feel I cannot go back to v.4.7.0.148.... I need it....

Edit: Vendor.XML was removed already straight after installing the firmware onto the PC...

I would suggest downloading 216 from another source. Be sure you uninstall the one you currently have installed.

Ahh. I had this and I can help!
I had the problem of during activation it endlessley rebooted and it sounds like you are in a similar situation. What I did was go into your options and disable device content protection (*in fact all protection)
After this my device did reboot a few times but the activation did creep up each time and eventually made it.
Since then, Ive used a few hybrids and not seen this issue reappear so I think Ive nailed it but I cant be sure until the next beta\official 9500 5.0 release.

just to say, I didnt nuke to upgrade from 4 to 5 but used apploader route....

as soon as my phone goes to screen saver
the creen wont swich back on and i loose all functionality
only a battery pull does the trick but doesnt shake the problem

im a 9500 user and have never once had a rebooting issue . could you have a faulty os try another source . are you doing a full restore ?


i have had problems from trying to do a restore when coming from a 4.7 to 5.0
i sugest try removing dm from the prosess completely. it changes core files

wipe with bbsak install with bbsak .

if you have to use dm only do an advanced restore and manualy select contacts etc.

also try stepping up to 230 i have heard good things about this with a bit of a lyricidal hybrid thrown in to the mix.
