    Help with 5.0 upgrade please!

I've been trying to update to the official release since 10p last night on my Mac.

I've tried several times. Twice receiving the 5XX error of reloading my software. Then I was able to downgrade back to 4.7. At one point I've managed to get it to boot up all the way and then give me the app error which just caused resets.

I've deleted the software on my Mac and re-downloaded it a million times. I've also read through the How To Un-Brick on Mac steps. Nothing is working for me. I still cannot get this dumb software onto my phone. I've been trying to read the forums and I know others have had the same problem but no "clear step-by-step" response.

My latest error I'm getting on my Mac is "Failed to validate OS image file: Application Support/BlackBerryDesktop/Device Applications/feb2ff4c400c5cfe5379d1e45609319f1996c020/rim0x04001404.sfi"

    WTF does this mean?!?

Any help that will lead to zero-more problems?
(And by help I mean not wasting your time responding to this telling me to go to a different thread or any negativeness)

I've tried posting this on Crackberry and so far, no luck. Since this community seems to be a bit nicer, I thought I'd give it a try.

first thing is first you will never never get any of that here its zero tolerance on it. SO no negative here... now with that said first are you using the official through DM or did you download it? I am not a huge mac guy but we have a few here that are great. welcome to

Well thanks for the kind welcome-ness. And yes, I've been trying to download it through DM. I'm not sure how to do it manually on a Mac and I've tried downloading it through Verizon but their page was all messed up - maybe because of the large amounts of people rushing to download.

jmf, welcome to !!! We do not tolerate any bashing here, so please feel free to ask questions. We will find a solution if it exists...unless of course RIM messed up Hang in there, we have a few Mac pro's.

I am looking everywhere I can think of for a solution. So far, nada. You said you downgraded to 4.7. Are you still running that OS or are you back to the 507 errors?

Have you tried a device wipe from the phone itself by any chance?

i am currently running the previous official verizon release - whichever that was. (can't check cause my phone is currently plugged in) It's painful to be stuck at 4.7 now after running leaked 5.0's. I'm trying to download the new 5.0 right now. And yes, I've tried a manual full wipe just once. I'll let you know what happens after this 3248234th time of trying to install

    I'll be here.

What software did you use to install the leaks?

thanks everyone for the support and help! I ended up wiping the entire thing and finding a friend's PC and proceeded that way. I'm up and running again and very much so enjoying the new OS!

I too am having the exact same error message.
    No leaks installed.
It appears that the .sfi file may have been left out of the 5.0 release.

I'm a bit of a Mac geek so I can shed light on the subject of what BBDM is looking for and where... the .sfi file appears to be a piece of the 5.0 install located under the User/(name)/Library/Application Support/BlackBerryDesktop/Device Applications/

I don't think the prior individual was able to resolve the issue, by simply uploading from a PC.

Any input is seriously welcome. I'll offer what I can from a Mac OS 10.6 standpoint, regarding how BBDM works on an Apple machine.

Welcome to Bobby. I've looked through Google and other search engines and have found nothing yet. I'm still searching. Hopefully someone else on the Help Team has had better luck.

Thanks TM. I will leave this next statement intentionally vague: I also work for a telecommunications company. I'm going to try my luck with some folks in the office tomorrow with similar interests. I'll post what I find.

    Here's what I've found:
    BlackBerry Storm .90 Radio File = rim0x04001404.sfi (4shared.com)

I'm putting a wager of a cold beverage of choice, that the .sfi file just got skipped in build of the new release for Mac and will get dropped in the install package shortly.

Looking forward to added input & output.

Looks like the issues keep coming for 5.0 RIM legit installs.
News from the field @ the unnamed communications company:
It appears that many PC Users are losing the BB Instant Messenger (and additional apps) after 5.0 rolls in, and Mac Users who install with BBDM for Mac are unable to complete the install.

Still looking for a workaround for:
"Cannot complete install. Error - Failed to validate OS image file: /Users/<user name>/Library/Application Support/BlackBerryDesktop/Device Applications/feb2ff4c400c5cfe5379d1e45609319f1996c020/rim0x04001404.sfi"

I'm curious if this .SFI file is loaded into any PC User's application support library? I'm likewise curious if copying the file, and manually placing it into the Mac User's application support library will fix it.

    I'm open to being a guinea pig.:Eyecrazy:

I'm also curious if any RIM folks troll these boards looking for real world issues/fixes.?

    Thanks jnepsa.
    I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Funny, us Mac folks are late night forum runner. AI's & Apple Support forums are wildest at night.

Sadly "another forum" suggested "just load the OS from a PC."
I had to ask myself... Seriously? Thats the solution? Give up and use a PC?

    So I signed up for

Sorry, not me. I'm analytical by nature and need to know why it won't work and fix it. But it does explain the frustration expressed by jmf5017 in the grandfather posting.

    See y'all soon.
    Bobby
