Thanks TM. I will leave this next statement intentionally vague: I also work for a telecommunications company. I'm going to try my luck with some folks in the office tomorrow with similar interests. I'll post what I find.

I'm putting a wager of a cold beverage of choice, that the .sfi file just got skipped in build of the new release for Mac and will get dropped in the install package shortly.
Looking forward to added input & output.
Looks like the issues keep coming for 5.0 RIM legit installs.
News from the field @ the unnamed communications company:
It appears that many PC Users are losing the BB Instant Messenger (and additional apps) after 5.0 rolls in, and Mac Users who install with BBDM for Mac are unable to complete the install.
Still looking for a workaround for:
"Cannot complete install. Error - Failed to validate OS image file: /Users/<user name>/Library/Application Support/BlackBerryDesktop/Device Applications/feb2ff4c400c5cfe5379d1e45609319f1996c020/rim0x04001404.sfi"
I'm curious if this .SFI file is loaded into any PC User's application support library? I'm likewise curious if copying the file, and manually placing it into the Mac User's application support library will fix it.
I'm open to being a guinea pig.:Eyecrazy:
I'm also curious if any RIM folks troll these boards looking for real world issues/fixes.?
I know that our MAC users have been busy adn are usually nite owls.. Hopefully one of them will be through soon..

Funny, us Mac folks are late night forum runner. AI's & Apple Support forums are wildest at night.
Sadly "another forum" suggested "just load the OS from a PC."
I had to ask myself... Seriously? Thats the solution? Give up and use a PC?
So I signed up for
Sorry, not me. I'm analytical by nature and need to know why it won't work and fix it. But it does explain the frustration expressed by jmf5017 in the grandfather posting.
See y'all soon.
I used DM on my iBook to do the install and all went fine, then used my work notebook (PC) to activate BES ... Wonder how many other people had issues doing the install from a Mac?
By my count... 2.

I wonder if it's a Snow Leopard thing. Only speculation. It's odd though that the exact same file is missing.
I might be on to something thought. Working through going back to a previous OS to run some tests.
I've gotta get myself a spare BB to beat up on, it's too stressful experimenting on my primary device.

It might take me a few days, as I am dealing with a death in the family right now; but I will mess around on my Hackintosh and see what I can come up with. I almost suspect that it IS a Snow Leopard issue, and could be something as simple as things getting placed in the wrong folders. I believe the error message itself means the file failed its built-in checksum verification.
I will post again if I come up with anything.
10.5.8 here as well
