    Switching OS's

could someone just give me a refresher on just how to upgrade my O/S software.

I am currently running v4.7.0.76 (don't ask me what that is I dunno lol)

and I am looking to go to v4.7.0.151.

someone just give me a little help like a step by step process on how to do it.

I already have the .151 version saved to my computer and I installed it. If I need to uninstall I can do so, just looking to get this thing on a stable O/S

I really think you would be impressed with 5.0.0.323. You may want to consider that OS over 151.

If you need more help just shout and we will be here to help!

Here is a step by step guide to installing an OS here

hmm I must've done something wrong because I followed the instructions and then when I went to open the loader it didn't show any options to put on any OS or anything? Just asked me if I wanted to add one. It's the part after they ask for the PIN when you're in the app loader part.

I should just go to 5.0.0.323 this is frustrating lol

Did you delete the vendor.xml file in C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/Apploader and delete the vendor.xml file.

So, since the apploader thing didn't work in the end where it didn't recodnize my OS or whatever, I opened up desktopmanager and just loaded my old OS that way, so now I'm back where I started. I'm wondering if I should try again?

    I just love Vista64....

Ok, hit the start orb and type in search vendor.xml and let the pc search. Then when complete do an advanced search for the same file. It will probably find it hidden somewhere, you will need to delete it too.

    found nothing haha.

I wish I still had xp, got a new comp and this shit is happening all the time now.

would I go through the same process upgrading to a 5.0.0 version? The OS I'm on right now is horrible, the phone freezes when people call and it's driving me nuts

Yes, the exact same steps. You will really like 5.0.0.323. It is light years above your current OS as well as 151

    Unhappy

Are you trying to load from a laptop? I have the same problem whenever I try to load a new OS from my laptop. Never had the problem on a desktop. I know it does not make sense but I think it is a common problem. BBC should be able to advise you. He is the best.

still having an issue, I am going to try again, hopefully it works. I am on a desktop PC, designed for gaming. i7 processor, 16gigs ram, 2 vid cards etc.

Just gonna try again, having an issue with bbsak now, wont connect to my bb. Frustrating vista, why can't microsoft just better a current OS instead of coming out with complete garbage like vista

BBSAK will not recognize my phone anymore unless I turn mass storage mode off and pull battery, then it will. Try that!

Try right clicking apploader and run as admin. Then see what happens when you start loader. Should work.

Someone else was having this problem the other day and that fixed it.

Also, make sure you only have one device OS on your computer. (Does Vista have control panel?) Go to add/remove programs and uninstall any OS on there except for the one you want. Also, be careful that you DO NOT uninstall Desktop manager - it would be listed next to the OS's

yea I do just have the one OS on my control panel :P Just going to delete it though and reinstall a 5.0.0 one instead of a 4.7.0 since i am having problems with those, hopefully I will have better luck since i am currently on a 4.7.0.

and here I also attached a screenshot of my desktop to show everything (don't worry I erased my pin

Keep in mind that I use XP, but you are familiar with both so here:

Go to C:/ program files / common files / research in motion / apploader <--right click and run as admin

Then try it. I think the path may be slightly different since its Vista. Someone who knows chime in real quick (sunkast?)
