Thread: Newbie .230 Question

Just got my first BB about 1 1/2 months ago, and am really wanting to try out the new .230. My problem is that I have done so much reading on this, I think I've confused myself lol.

So my questions are: Is it as simple as dl the OS and installing onto my bb? and if I don't like .230, how hard is it to go back to my current version?

It is very simple, Yea installed the OS on the computer, create a back up of your current phone (this does not back up the OS, just the contacts, txt, mms, BBM etc) delete everything off ur phone via JLcommander or BBKA (i don't think that's the correct abbreviation, but can't remember right now) go to the loader.exe file located in the Rim folder and run the loader...it's very easy.

**if u have a previous OS installed on the computer, delete that first before installing the new OS**

From what I have read it seems all the apps I use work fine (facebook, bloomberg, personal assistant, and weatherbug are the main ones), and everything runs quicker and smoother for about 99% of the people out there. I guess my biggest worry is since I am new to the bb game, I am worried I am going to screw something up, or if I am in the 1% of people who don't seem to like it, I won't be able to go back to my old OS.

Ahmen to that!! I think BBOS turn around time is like 5seconds lol. I'm not kidding, it's almost as if the staff and members have the answer typed up before u even finish posting ur q'stion lol. IT'S AWESOME!!!

But yea, u can go back to .148, do u have the .148 .exe file? If not someone can get u the file. I went from .230 to .191 to .148 cause I had to return the phone lol, I was just like u, worried at first about the whole installing a leaked OS but after the first one, and seeing how easy it was, i got hooked, been doing it since January 2009 lol. So you'll b fine

really!?!?! I don't think i've heard this happening to anyone else. I know this is a "duh!" q'stion but sometimes the obvious is easily overlooked, but, in ur contacts is everything set up correctly? The names don't show up w/ a different number?

Now that you've got the OS installed u should head on over to the http://www.blackberryos.com/forums/9...hread-3-a.html forum and mention it there, maybe someone might have had the same problem and found a fix. Hope everything else is working well.

Did you do a battery pull, or two or three??!! That may help solve that problem! Good luck and congrats on your upgrade! I can't imagin you might still want to go back to .148 now that you've seen what .230 is all about!!

+1 on the battery pulls!
Pull the battery, wait about a minute, then reinstall. I usually do this three times after an OS change, so far it works for me.

tried the battery pull with no luck, i'll try it over in the findings and fixes. thanks again.

No problem...worst comes to worse u just do another clean install...just time consuming that's all.

Ok guys, since you're sorta on the subject I want here, quick question. Is it absolutely necessary to wipe the phone before loading 230? I'm currently on a 167/5.0 hybrid.

I was all over all the latest OS leaks prior to the 5.0 builds. Not wanting to take the 5.0 plunge until most of the stuff was ironed out, I started to go down the road of Lyricidal's hybrids (WHICH ROCK BTW!!). But with 230 I think I'm finally convinced it's functional enough to go with it. I'm perfectly capable of wiping with either JL or BBSAK, but the non wipe where the loader puts everything including the third party apps back for you is just sooooo much easier, and I find I loose less this way. (Please don't flame, I'm all about ease of upgrade).

FLAMING DOES NOT EXIST HERE!!!

and you dont have to wipe its suggested, just as a precaution, that way if there are any corrupt files on your phone they are all cleared before you load the new os and find a large problem

Haha, thanks. Maybe I'm used to the "other" boards. Even though I have just a few posts I've been hanging around here for a while and love this forum.

I'm gonna try the non-wipe way first for the heck of it. If it acts funky I'll wipe it down to nothing and start again over the weekend. Doesn't bother me to do it, but I like avoiding it if I can.
