Thread: Irql_not_less_or_equal Error

I'm pulling whats left of my receding hairline out over this error. While trying to load on OS on my home computer it appears to get to where it's loading the files then this error occurs. It seems that if I do the device wipe under security options and then run jlcommander to fully wipe is when I run into problems. Both BBC's 8.5 and .230 full have caused this.

So I finally get .230 full loaded using my office computer, now want to restore calendar and address book using backup from home computer as that was my last full backup. Could not back it up prior to reloading 230 from work as my phone was jacked. When I try to restore only calendar and contacts DM does not see this most recent database backup. I'm running DM 5.0.1 on windows xp

Also I updated some software today hoping this problem was caused by software that did not have patches applied.

Any ideas here? I've read that cannot do a full restore with a 4.7 backup on 5.0 OS or problems will arise. Thinking maybe I should try going back to 8.5, restoring backup then taking another backup on my work computer and reinstalling 5.0 from there.

This error is on your computer or BlackBerry?

On my computer. Now that I have .230 loaded to my phone I am able to at least interact with DM without this occurring. The 2 things I don't know for sure are...
1) can I simply do a full restore from my last 4.7 backup
2) was this computer error caused by DM or java environment on my computer or some other software, perhaps even bad ram chip on computer.

This only ever occurs when I'm trying to load an OS to my phone.

Try uninstalling DM, rebooting, then reinstalling DM.

Thank you for your response. I uninstalled DM and the OS, thinking perhaps when I went to DM 5.0 that may have caused the problem. When that didn't resolve it I downloaded the DM 5.0 from verizons website. Still same issue, so I downloaded the latest DM leak and still same. I just did a full restore from my 8.5 backup and it did not appear to have caused me any issues but a day or so will tell eh?

I really wanted to shrink 230 prior to installing on my work computer but due to not having .net framework downloaded to that machine I could not. I'm just wondering if I install my shrunk version again from home computer if by not wiping first I will get around this problem.

Did you reboot at all between uninstalling and reinstalling?

I think I remember rebooting but then again it was getting rather late! I'll try again. Are there any known issues with the latest DM leak as I recall someone saying that Vista users are having better luck with DM 4.7.

There shouldn't be anything that would cause your error. It's most likely an error with your computer's hardware.

Thanx for your help! I think I'm hanging it up for the evening. If I find out more of course I'll share...

The problem with the "irql_not_less_or_equal" stop error is that it is sort of a "catch all" error that doesn't really point to a specific problem. To give you an idea of how many things can cause it, I am going to point you to this link I found by Googling "irql_not_less_or_equal vista":

As you can see, this error can be caused by anything from anti-virus programs to bad hardware to bad programming. You may want to make sure ALL of your hardware drivers are up to date (including motherboard chipset drivers) - and it might not hurt to try disabling anti-virus software while running apploader.

I have recently gotten this BSOD a couple times, not sure whats causing it but with a lot of research I have to many ideas to test. I'm running windows 7 but don't run desktop manager on that pc so it's un-blackberry related for me.
