anybody know of a fix to keep the PRL from going to 0 everytime you batt pull?
anybody know of a fix to keep the PRL from going to 0 everytime you batt pull?
This glitch has been reported and the feedback I have heard is that even though the PRL shows zero after a reset that in fact the PRL is actually still there. Obviously you can update/restore with *22899 from your home area. Hope this helps![]()
diggin the blackberry whore tagline...wish mine said the same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey morg just wanted to give you some info... I just confirmed this myself today on .230 when it goes to zero, I can still use the phone mostly but my service is much lower until I do *22899. Then after batt pull service will suck until done again so i dont think it is actually saving.
How can you tell what PRL is loaded on the phone?
I tested this and had the same results. PRL 51540 in place before a battery swap.... PRL 0 after battery swap... *22899 replaces PRL 51540. I will test the phone with the PRL 0 and see how it performs...

No matter how hard you push the envelope...It will always be stationery
might sound really dumb on my part ... but what exactly is PRL ???? What does it do on my phone and why does it matter if it goes to 0???
PRL is the Preferred Roaming List
It is a database residing in a wireless (primarily CDMA) device, such as a cellphone, that contains information used during the system selection and acquisition process.
The PRL table is to optimize the acquisition time by identifying only the frequencies that should be searched, rather than searching the entire frequency spectrum.
Ok...so i decided to try a little experiment today and this is how it went:
I started with a battery pull and PRL 0. I drove a loop through my area and watched the signal strength in the status screen. I noted where the signal was good and where it was poor. I then did a *22899 and drove the same loop. With the PRL 51540, I still had good signal in the same areas and poor signal in the same areas as before. The readings I observed were virtually identical in both tests.
Has anyone figured another way to test the PRL in the .230 OS?

were you in 1XEV or vzw coverage? WHat the PRL actually controls is towers that are NOT vzw that the phone sees as 1X for instance I live in an alltel area and work in a vzw area at work PRL 0 makes no diff, but at home with out the prl my service is half or less of what it normally is.. does that make sense?
Yes, that makes perfect sense... I guess then the only time to worry about that would be travelling outside "home" coverage area...

Yeah, I guess I'm lucky in that regard...with the exception of an occasional trip out of town, I'm under the BIG RED blanket...![]()
