Thread: New Blackberry Owner / Questions

I've never had a blackberry before. The storm 9530 is my first one. I heard great things about it so went and got one. I loved the phone but all the little bugs on it are annoying. So my question is are these upgrades worth doing? Can you actually tell that the phone is functioning better than it did before? The software on there now is the .75. It seems like everything I've read people just keep changing the OS every couple of days to something different. Seems like a lot of work and no pay off. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I love the phone and would even more so if it didn't lag so bad.

It really isn't that much work, and once it is done, I myself do notice difference between versions. Especially if comparing it to .75

Do you know if it voids any kind of warranty on the phone?

No void, because if you need to send it back you just wipe and reinstall 75 again.

Welcome Mike to the boards. When you go from .75 OS to an OS like .114, you will see a HUGE difference in your phone. Right now you probably hate it and think its a piece of sh*t because it lags, freezes and whatever else you dont want it to do. Once you upgrade to a beta OS you will fall in love with your phone.

The other option you can do is wait for verizon to officially release the .113. We do not know of a release date yet but you know verizon. They are full of lies.

It is very easy to upgrade your OS. You can read the directions on how to do it or if you need one on one help we will def help you out here either in the forums or you one of us can go into the chat with you and talk to you one on one in there.

dont mean to "take over" your thread but i have 1 more Storm question. I noticed i seem to always have 1XEV signal. I also have this as my mobile network in options. I have never seen my phone say 3G but according to the coverage map 3G is in my area. Why is this?

mike updating is easy. you will 100% notice the difference from .75. i have updated a lot to different leaked OS's and Hybrids and they all have benefits. just find what you think would be best and its a breeze and worth it!

1XEV is verizons 3g network if you had 1xev then you would be on 2g

interesting. according to the manual it says 1XEV is same as EDGE and above that is 3G. works for me though. At least i know im on the best possible connection.
