I'm confused....
1. Install .191 and load to device. Really tricky thus far eh?
1.5. Save the .191 radio (.sfi file in the CDMA folder) to your hard drive.
2. Delete .191 from your computer and wipe your device (BBSAK; CrackUtil; whatevs).
Why install .191 on the device (Step 1) only to then wipe the device in Step 2? Could it just start out with a wiped device?

Again, I have no idea what I am doing. I am just repeating what i did. If you are looking for knowledgeable guidance, we're fresh out here; been that way since '78.
Per the TBZ thread by paul and BritishTurbo, you need to get 191 on the device and then downgrade to get flick on 140.
I encourage you and everyone else to try different approaches and share your methodology and findings. My process is anything but scientific.
Good luck, and good night!

Seems a bit of the logic may be miscommunicated here. I don't think one can "downgrade" a device's operating system when there's no operating system after the wipe. Perhaps wiping the device is not the way to go after you've installed .191 on it? That way, when you put your .140 Os over it (with the .191 radio and the two fixes) you will get the opportunity to "downgrade" to lower version number. Anyway, maybe someone will figure it out. But, Lou, really appreciate the suggestions about this .140 with .191 radio combo. Thanks.
Toytooii, here is the thread that Lou was referring to: http://www.blackberryos.com/forums/9...0-0-140-a.html
Even when you wipe the OS, there is still something that's left on phone (don't know exact term for it...core of OS??) and I guess that what's left, gives the flick scrolling, etc. .191 is a beautiful build with a crippled camera, so many people have attempted to fix it in various ways...so far this has been the only way to have some of .191 features yet a working camera.![]()
Olta. thanks for the info. I'm wondering if in fact it's necessary to wipe the device after installing .191. Loading the loader file that gets created from 140, the 191 radio and the fixes should load over (downgrade) what's already on the phone. Just guessing here...worth a try. Have you tried this (with the wipe as described) and gotten the desired result?
I have not tried this combination yet, as I am at work right now (and my main reason is I don't want to lose ANY .191 features)...but I can tell you for sure that Loader.exe wipes...When I was loading .191, my PC was slow and the process was slow so I saw with my own eyes the "Reload Software 507" for like 10 seconds....and I never wipe, so that was my confirmation. I do not have a couple devices to test side by side, but I know hybrid makers recommend wiping. One wipe I do suggest is the security wipe after you load the OS to phone but before the restore. I have read numerous times, that security wipe eliminates corrupt pieces of OS. Keep us posted on what process you choose and your results. Good luck.![]()
It totally makes sense what you are saying...I think some people just have a habbit of wiping everytime and I am too lazy to do itand I know Loader does it, so I pass. Also, just a live witness for you....191 is a rock solid build (with exception of camera), I would encourage you to try it alone (non-hybridized) just so you could try out the features. I absolutely love them and that's why I am very hesitant to try any other OS/hybrids/combinations.

In regards to the directions, I believe Lou was experimenting to see if he could make camera work, and I know he usually wipes with every OS change. He may have a better reason....but like I mentioned, it's a habbit for many people.![]()
yes, I know wiping works and I routinely do that before loading a new OS onto the device. But in this case, it seems there might be a good reason NOT to do it after installing .191 on the device....following it with that .140/191radio/and 2 fixes as described. I'm just speculating.
Anyway, I'm not anxious to try this particular one since my device is really running nicely on BBCM V.8.5. All my previous attempts with the various leaks of 5.0 have been met with disappointment...hopefully, a solid 5.0 OS will arise for the Storm (9530) sooner rather than later.
EDIT - I think I found the confusion. Here are the directions as posted by BRYAN in the link you provided. They DO NOT call for a wipe of the device after installing .191 to it....this makes a lot more sense.

Thanks Sezaro
Here are the instructions on how they are doing it. Keep in mind that flick does not work in all menus and is choppy in some. Thanks to BritishTurbo and Paul for posting these up
Quote:
I'm testing it now, but it seems this is how it works:
1.) Install 5.0.0.191 on PC
2.) Upgrade Storm to 5.0.0.191
3.) Remove 5.0.0.191 from PC
4.) Install 5.0.0.140 on PC
5.) Downgrade Storm to 5.0.0.140
After reboot should have working flick scroll on the 5.0.0.140...
Toytooii, have you tried plain .191? You might want to try it...I promise you will love it![]()
I had it on the device for a day or two but really wanted the camera to function....I use it almost daily so I reverted back to BBCM 8.5 with BerryScroll. Other than the camera, were there other shortcomings to .191. Seems I recall a few other issues but I've tried so many, I've lost track.

To be honest, this came about on a whim. During my last reload of .191, my calendar did not sync properly, so I wiped my phone to all high hell before and after installing .191 (I did a wipe and a factory reset on BBSAK).
Olta is correct in that I have just gotten into the habit of wiping per BBC's, OOAKDPC's and lyricidal's indoctrination.
