Thread: Google map fix for 5.0

sorry guys but i couldn't find the thread where i promised this fix.

you will need to download this cod/alx for google maps then unzip it in a folder on your desktop,find it with the DM app loader and install it from there. delete google maps from your berry before you start this.

this is not my fix but has to be credited to a poster on CB.

Does it work to solve the problem that we, Telus carrier from Canada, have with the Storm that use the cell tower instead of the built in GPS. I know how to fix it temporarely but every reboot, it has to be done again. I know that the Verizon users don't have this problem. I would love to be able to use Google map for my driving help. What I don't understand is that many little apps are able to use the built in GPS without any issue. It would be time that Google think about us a little bit north.

I was also trying to find that link to be posted here. Installing GM through DM works great with .191 on the Storm. Now, I wish I can find the cod/alx files for Google Talk.

not sure but probably not. this is a fix for 5.0os's where you try to install GM and it installs a tracball version instead of the touchscreen version.

Thanks for this info. I'm still running BBC V8.5 so maybe when the 5.0 version will be more stable, I will see if this fix the Telus problem with GM. Thanks again

cool...can you scroll from side to side? if you do you have the touch version. when you have 5.0 and try to download GM it will download the tracball version...this is a fix for that.

clicking the link makes you sign in?...i tried to host it on bbos but it said it was too big...if a mod could increase the hosting size i would upload it to bbos.

I'm on Telus in Nova Scotia using 5.0.0.191 and the GPS on Google Maps works for me. I didn't use any fix or reload the app except through restoring my backed up 3rd party Apps using BBSAK (Blackberry Swiss Army Knife). I did lose my browser and had some Media player functionality but I found work arounds for those issues that I'm satisfied with for now. Telus users seem to have some vastly different experiences with 5.0 OS's though so best just to try it out and see what happens!
