BBSAK showed me having the 167 messaging_app cod , when all other messaging cods (mms sms messages etc) were 151. SO i used BBSAK to "load cod" directly over the 167. Phone rebooted, Currently all msgs are working send and recieve.. but ill give it a lil more time to see if it STOPS working, and post back in a few hours with final results!

EDIT: MMS not working... 24 hours after swap.
Will now swap cods to .148 versions, and get back to you with results..

I had BBC 8.5 installed. My phone started acting funny screen lock ups add quick pull would not work sometimes and sometimes it would start a reboot on its own. I did a wipe using BBSAK but I was unable to reinstall 8.5. I can only load .148 using DM. When I try load an OS using BBSAK, Shrink or loader it will only let me reload my apps. I am having this problem at home and at work

Do you have more than one OS on your computer? You shouldn't even be able to load .148 if it isn't on your PC....

Uninstall any device software (not DM) through control panel > add remove programs.

Delete loader files: c/program files/common files/RIM/ shared/ loader/ (os# -delete this one).

Empty recycle bin.

Download fresh new OS .151, delete vendor file, install v8 over top, backup phone

Wipe and load .151 (v8)

Its weird 151 w/ v8.5 is all i have on my computer I wiped everthing off both computers. After I started trying 191 thats when I started having this problem.

I had similar issues. Your best bet is to keep following the procedures prescribed above.

I had wiped and installed three times before 8.5 went through without a hitch.

It's just down right weird how everyone's Storms and PC's seem to be react differently with different types of programs (mine especially!! I sometimes think my Storm is bi-polar :Eyecrazy: ).

The other thing is to make sure you really got all the others off and not just by uninstalling. Try doing a search on your computer n see if they are hidden somewhere

I finally got it to work. When I tried to install 151 it asked me to repair or remove. I selected remove then reinstalled 151 and 8.5. did a backup, wipe and load with BBSAK and it worked. Thanks for your help

QUESTION: can i use BBSAK to swap MMS.cod on the fly, or do i need to do a wipe/swap/reinstall?

Pardon me if I already asked you this (don't think I did), but did you shrink OR simply not install the Attachment Service?? You could plug back in and run loader, then see if you can install attachment service only.

So, this is my followup just to close this out. The battery life has much improved since the initial install of 8.5 and is back where it was before (recharge every three days or so). Recalibrating the battery monitoring chip seems to have done the trick.

i just downloaded 230 on my phone and to be honest im not too exicted about this os. ive had 8.5 on my phone in the past but switched to lyridicals 7.1 when 167 was released bc of slacker and pandora. was wondering if i could install 8.5 over a 167 os

Don't think so - I haven't heard of anyone even trying that though.

If you want slacker and Pandora to work just install v8.5 over the recommended OS but swap the radio with .132 following the instructions posted earlier in this thread. You have to switch a couple files in order for the radio swap to work but you'll have what you're looking for.

I would need BBC to confirm this but i dont think the 8.5 is compatible with .167 and up.. I thought i remembered hearing about this

I'm planning on installing this tonight.
Can someone please list the known issues with this hybrid ( no cam / no mms no facebook/myspace app etc)

It has been awhile but I don't remember any negatives? Maybe the pandora bug where it doesn't finish the song?

The only problem I had with this was that the Direct TCP connection would only work for about 1.5 to 2 hours and then stop working until battery pull. The direct tcp connection is the fastest connection possible and is required for apps like Pandora or others that stream data.

This can also create problems for apps like vlingo, which automatically detect the best connection when you open them, but when the direct tcp connection stops working after that 1.5-2 hr. mark, the app won't check for a different connection, such as BIS-B, and will stop working.

Many other apps like ubertwitter will let you choose your connection. So you could use the Direct TCP connection until it stops working (getting the fastest refresh rate) and then manually switch to BIS-B so you can still get updates without having to pull the battery.

Some people would just leave it on BIS-B all the time and be happy - that wasn't good enough for me so I used v8.5 with a .132 radio swapped in (the .151 radio is what causes the issue with Direct TCP connections). You have to swap a couple files out to make the radio swap work so read some of the previous posts in this thread for instructions.

If you don't use pandora or any other apps that use the direct tcp connection you should be fine. I personally like to have the fastest available connection for all my apps.

v8.5 is without a doubt the best OS (in my opinion) if you don't want to try 5.0. Hope this helps and doesn't confuse anyone!

In regards to MMS, camera, and FB, they all worked fine for me even with the .151 radio. A few people have had issues with MMS not working on this though.

This is an issue with 5.0.0.191 I believe.

I know this is off topic, but I finally tried this tip with my fried xbox controller battery and can confirm that this totally works. The controller wouldn't work at all unless it was plugged in. I put the battery in the freezer for a day or two then took it out and let it thaw for a day or so, then charged it. Now holds a charge like new!

You could try this with the storm battery too.

Hey Crackman, Am thinking of going back to your infamous 8.5 w/.151..Can you remind me if that kool 3g logo is w/it and flick scrolling is in it. I am having Bluetooth issues w/.230 w/.238files and want to go back to what works for my BB..
