Hi tommy, your right about, certain themes being huge memory leaks but Ottie only has the stock theme on here. The zen theme has very little leak to it. The tip app is actually fairly small in size and nothing really to it to leak.
    com_plasmic_theme_zen_today plus 8 2 <-- That didn't come on MY storm
:hail: TOMMY! I did read the and of it. :lmao: ill bet my theme is worse that Otties, I'm guessin its more than that.

I would have to agree too!! It's typically always the theme's fault!!

Hey Ottie, let me add my two cents about trying to improve your available memory. So of the programs you provided let me tell you which ones are known memory leakers:

    VZ Navigator
    Word Mole
Quick Pull (since you have quick launch you can use the reset function to do the same thing as Quick Pull)
    Poynt
    Facebook

So if there are any of the above you do not use I would delete this from your phone. After deleting, do a battery pull leaving you battery out for 60 seconds before putting it back in.

not to disagree with any one else but JL has hit the nail on the head, when i removed Poynt from my phone it was 10x better, and if you dont use VZnav ditch it its just a whore, there could be someone working on making it better though...

I can't see how those apps and not shrinking could cause him to reboot at 27mbs. It would leak overtime, but seconds after rebooting? .151 is the most stable OS I've ran since getting my storm. I would suggest a wipe and reinstall and shrink it to make it smaller. Seems like he has a corrupt file/files or something else going on there.

I tend to agree. I think he needs to run a hybrid too. With all the hybrids I've ran with lately, they all have giving me more memory than that and i have more apps than that. I have had Poynt since I've had my phone and have had no big memory
    leaks with it.

Remember that he has a theme too When I ran a 3 party theme, most of the time it booted around there with out shrinking.

And hyrbrids are not always the answer, Iknow dont kill me. Sometimes hybrids can be more than what a person wants/needs, if anythign I would say that he could have a ton of contacts and pics on his phone, maybe hasnt cleared his messages in a while, If there were a corrupt file he would be seeing more problems than he is. Trust me I got one, made for a great day....I guess what I am saying is remember dont be quick to throw people on the hybrid wagon when they may not be there.

We have three Storms in my house and all of them have Poynt installed. No problems with any of them. We love the App. I don't know what to tell you other than each phone is different but apparently all of ours are the same.

my guess would be a corrupt file or a bad theme. i would go with the wipe/reload. after that use a stock theme for a day or so then start adding your custom theme to see if that was the problem.

So Ottie as you can see no 2 Storms are alike. What leaks for me might not leak for you. I tend to agree with those who stated that you should wipe your phone and do a fresh install of the OS.

Hey Ottie I'm gonna throw my 2 cents in here even though you have gotten some great advise from the experts here on BBOS.

From what I have learned here on BBOS your available memory at start up is effected by the apps you have loaded on your phone. So any of those apps you have loaded like AOL Messenger, VZNav, VZW tones, Window live, etc... will lower your start up available memory. If you get rid of the ones you don't use, your start up memory should increase. The larger the size of the app you get rid of, the bigger the increase you will see.

As for the memory leaking, different apps leak more or less than others AND most will leak more or less on someone else's Storm than on yours. Through trial an error you have to find the ones that are leaking on your particular phone. The prior posts list which of those apps have been found to be memory leakers on a large number of phones, so you could start with removing those.

After you get rid of the apps you don't use, and if you still have the memory leak, remove the suspected apps one at a time and see if that helps your memory leak. In my personal experience Themes have usually been the worst culprit for memory leaks AND depending on the theme the biggest drain on start up memory as well. YouMail was a BIG memory leak for me as well. I just set my YouMail account up to send me an email with an mp3 attachment so I can hear the voicemail.

Good Luck with your phone though and I hope you're able to find the problem app.

Yea. Good advice everyone:banana: Def wipe and reload fo sho!

Don't forget to delete .151 from your PC too and download a fresh copy here: .151 download

I'm still betting on the theme too. Delete that and leave the rest and see what happens. Then delete others one by one if its still happening. You can always put them back using your backup.

.151 is a very stable OS (for me) and memory should NOT be an issue with that one.

Let us know what you do and what happens!

    Here's my 1 cent.

I got rid of several apps early on that I was told were the hogs.

On my Storm it was VZ NAVIGATOR.

I love the app...but I replaced it with Garmin Mobile. It also is 9.95 a month or you can go whole hog and ay 99.95 once for life. It is a LOT better app than VZ Navigator and does not leak.

It runs in 3D and with this app you don't need POYNT either, so you can save some memory there.

I don't understand the low boot up memory though, but think you could fix that with a "wipe", a fresh install of .151 and I would throw BBC's V8 hybrid in there. You should be in the high 40's or low 50's I would think.

Oh, and by the way, I am running 5.0.140 and the Garmin Mobile app runs fine, so it is good to go with your hybrids and upgrades in the future.
