    5.0.0.140 GPS Issue Question

I am reinstalling 5.0.0.140. I noticed some extraneous .cod files in the Java folder. While manually removing these files to the "Removed Files" subfolder, I noticed that the following file was missing: net_rim_bb_lbs_resource__en.cod.

I believe "lbs" stands for location-based services. I wonder if this was the reason for the GPS issues some folks have been having on 5.0.0.140.

I have added the 4.7.0.151 version of this file and will see what happens....

Everything loaded okay. I will play with the device tonight (man that sounds dirty) and pass along any thoughts.

If you have any suggestions on errors to be tested (my GPS was fine previously), please let me know.

Happy to help. If I have time, I may do a comparison of the two Java folders.

Thus far I have not noticed any difference. Google Maps still does not have the frontscreen buttons. I have not loaded BB Maps.

Here is a thought: Would someone who runs VZNavigator give this fix a go? I thought I read that VZNav was not working on 5.0.0.140--maybe this would be the cure?

BB Maps runs fine. used today for my job. I miss the vocal turn by turn directions, (Its funny cause bb maps has a option to get into your blue tooth control. i wonder if I'm not seeing something to make the voice to work with the program.)

    Lou,

if u dint mind, post up the file u want me to add in and i will see if i can get vz nav to work with the added file. Thanks!

Hey Lou, got an extra Dos Equis? just kidding I just turned on my gps and used BB maps and it worked like a charm, it is so accurate it could tell I'm near the rear of my house in my office/guitar studio.
When in doubt, pull the battery out!

This was the first time I turned my GPS on since installing 5.0 so I have not tried the fix, mine worked right out of the box. As stated many pages ago it seems that installing 5.0 just as if you were a regular consumer letting it backup and install the new os and reinstall your apps works better with fewer bugs than doing a security wipe then a jl or bbsak wipe. The first time I loaded 5.0 the day it leaked I did the full wipe but had a few weird things going on so I went back to .151 V7.4 then let 5.0 do the install over the hybrid and had very few bugs compared to the wiped install. I never tried the gps on the first go round only now after reading your post. Gracias Senor

Great to hear! I think I am too hooked on 5.0.0.140 to downgrade, so I will probably continue tweaking on this one.

Any VZNavigator guinea pigs out there?

I know what you mean. With the exception of a couple of apps I'm having trouble with this OS is pretty stable.

I gather you are talking about a BES server? My understanding is that BBM info does not show on the BES server.

Any IT admins care to chime in on this one?

While running 5.0? You could but I would not recommend it. Some of 4.7 files do not play nice with 5.0 and there is a good chance you might brick your phone.
