I went back and extracted the files again. Once this was complete, I deleted the Internal Tools and vendor file again and used the Loader.exe option. It appears to be working, but I am concerned that I will lose the new BBMessenger. Can I just go back and reinstall it again once my update is complete?
You will lose the BBM 5.0 but there is an OTA for the BBM 5.0
Use this to install BBM OTA:
Storm BBM 5 OTA
Actually it's on his own web site.
BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 OTAs
No need to go to CB to find it.
The RimInternalTools that is...remove the entire folder?
Hello cookyconsp, and welcome to BBOS.
Thanks for posting your findings. It is post like these that can confirm that the littlest of differences can make a big difference in the long run. Maybe you can help to shed some light on your experience with the installation of your OS.
Thanks
Few things I've noticed ... I apologize if they've been posted already or already existed in a previous 4.7.x leak ... I tried searching a bit and couldn't find anything
1.) the copy and paste selector is different and when you hilite text, it's much easier to use than before (especially since the "handles" are now above/below the text, so you can move it more easily while reading text)
2.) Under Options -> Language was there always an "Input Style" option? I don't personally remember seeing it before ... the options are "Corrective Input" (default, acts the same as 4.7 did by default) and "Predictive Input with Flexible Keys" that pops up guesses about what you're trying to type across the top of the screen (vertically with the ability to scroll vertically) ... seems to be much faster at looking up/guessing words than previously ... no clock popping up every time you get a few letters into a word
3.) "key ghosting options" in Options -> "Screen/Keyboard" at the bottom ... when you touch the screen on the keyboard, it previews what key your finger is on by showing up bold and hilighted next to where your cursor is ... haven't played with all the options yet, but it seems like it could really help the accuracy of typing, since it admittedly is hard to see what letter your finger is on
those are just the two things I'd noticed that I hadn't seen mentioned ... otherwise, i'm LOVING OS5 even w/o being able to run FB or AppWorld... THIS is how the storm should've worked when it was first released!
OK...I installed this yesterday before Rim got mad and made everyone take the links down. I thought I may have misunderstood because I deleted the entire RimTools folder, but I guess that is what I was supposed to do.
I wiped from my Security Options and removed 3rd party selection...then wiped with BBSAK. I had all ready cleaned my computer and went with a fresh install of 5.0.
I have to say that I really had no hitches. Vlingo didn't connect, nor did BB Appworld or Application Center, so I deleted them. Quick Pull does work as well as about 20 other apps.
My browser however is just about a dead stick. It takes forever. I can download apps, but the browser usually times out once or twice before I get it.
Opera Mini works and is blazingly fast. It too pauses and I don't ever get the progress bar. It pauses and then BAM! it all loads at once.
I have to say I am loving it and I know our resident geniuses will have us a hybrid that fixes all our other cares soon enough. I feel for those of you that are having problems, I guess I got one of those "good Storms", it takes everything I throw at it. In fact, the only issue I have ever had is the slow browser and that didn't start until the V7 hybrids.
I really think that someone nuked a couple of cell towers that my phone is supposed to use because it happened all of a sudden like and has been this way for about 2 weeks or so.
Other than that I am a happy camper.
For the rest of you, we really do have some intelligent people that Rim would be proud to have and I can only assume that they are in their basements with a couple of cases of beer and are all ready hard at work to make this the golden OS.
So hang in there.
Oh...18 apps total (3rd party) and boot with 41.8MB and holds strong in the mid 30'sMB all day. I don't think it has gone below 34MB and I am a stroke victim so I play with it all day long.
Can't report on battery life though, because being at home I hardly ever unplug it from the charger.
Off the subject, but what are the Rim internal Apps anyway
I don't know what happened but all of a sudden my Browser just started flying. Not as fast a Opera, but it really moves now.
The only thing I changed was I went into Options/Mobile Network and change the Network Technology setting to from Global to 1XEV. Just thought I would try that...could that be why it's working now?
