Thread: Unlocked Storm and EDGE what are your thoughts

In great condition, but I need it to work on Tmobile. What would be the best OS for it to work on Tmobile and receive EDGE? And will I be happy coming from a 8900(which I'm still keeping)?

If i remember right with the storm you will only get edge not EDGE

The OS really won't matter for the EDGE/edge difference what will really matter is the Radio file. You can take any OS and insert whatever radio file into and it will work. Here are the radio riles others have had good luck with

.90 - the best for connection stability but most users get random reboots with it

.151 - seems to be a very close second (but some edge users have said it is horrible)

So with these radio files, I will get EDGE?

You should but like Bryan said before there is some issues you might experience when using them.

Yes you will but like I said it reacts differently to each phone

Some users report steady EDGE with them and others report sporadic EDGE/edge with them

.90 has hands down been the best by all accounts but like I said it comes with random reboots for most

Ok, now I'm not sure then. Wonder if this will improve with newer radio files.

We also have a lot of EDGE users who will hopefully chime in on this topic and help you come to a decision.

Here are my thoughts, You only get random reboots when you use apps that try to locate your locations. For example ubertwitter. For some reason 90 doesn't like those apps.

I run 148 with ooakd 5.92 with the radio 90 code. For me it works well. Any hybrid above 5.92 for me and I lose my icons, they are all black.

I am waiting for the next leaked os to see how that radio file works for EDGE.

Watkins you don't have to pay anything for a Storm to be unlocked. If you have had your phone with VZW for more than 60 days all you need to is call VZW International CS and they will give the unlock code for free.

I bought mine through craigslist for 350 and it was locked. This was around Jan. though.

I then paid I think 20 to have it unlocked.

But if you have it through vzw and over 60 days do what Jlevy says!!

and also if you are like me and not care for some apps that do require TCP/IP settings, then all you do is uncheck it. (This is for unlocked storms running on networks other than VZW)

Blackberry App World and AIM for instance work with no apn settings.

If you can live without certain apps that DO require apn, then .90 radio is for you. If not, then .151 radio works wonders.

I guess the no apn setting everyone tries to avoid, but to me this is the easiest way to bypass the VSOD and random reboots people have had with .90 radio. I myself have not tried .90 and don't intend to.
