Thread: BES automatic reactivation/sync after updating firmware

My BB used to always automatically reactivate/resync my BES without me having to get a new activation pw each time but for some reason or another it has not been doing so lately. A few things have changed since then. I have the new DM 5 installed and I had 2 Tour's and went back to my Storm. Like most of you I've been updating my firmware whenever there's a new release. I've been requesting new activation pw's from my IT dept every day almost... :laugh2: 2x I had to request it from the same reps... :22:

Does anyone know what I can do to have it reactivate each time automatically without having to activate it with a new pw each time? TIA!

Your BES Admin has to enable it to activate through the DM. Not all BES Admins like doing it this way (control thing) but it is a simple process. I would recommend speaking with them to find out if they would be willing to allow this.

ah ok, would u happen to know if it's a general option that'll affect all users or can they set it for specific users only through their profile or whatnot?

Correct me if I'm wrong BBC but the BES is also PIN specific. So when you switch devices you will always need a few activation code.

Rellims- from what I understand yes it is Pin Specific.

Back to the question at hand:

Step 1 is to find out if your company allows for automatic BES reactivation. if they do I have found the following with automatic BES reactivation at least with my storm:

You have to make sure that you have the Desktop software installed on a work computer, can connect to your network/outlook profile threw the desktop software. I normally upgrade the app loader way, so after i do my back ups (third party and normal) i disconnect from the DT software and use app loader to load my new os.

After it has loaded, i set the time zone and in my case call Verizon to register my phone. at that point, i hook into my companies network on my laptop threw a VPN, open my outlook up, and then open the DT software. After the email hooks into the DT program, i plug in the phone i just upgraded. DM does it thing and after it is finished, i normal go to options->Advanced Options-> Enterprise Activation and my phone normally restart reconnecting to my BES.

One last note is that I now wait till after my BES connects to add by 3rd party back in, restore my back up and my 3 battery pulls. Might be over kill but that’s how I roll. Lol. Hope ya get it figured it out.

I actually got it to work again. For some reason or another the DM 5 I installed wasn't registering the PIN as the "active" one which is assigned to my exchange account. I uninstalled DM5 and reinstalled it. I've just plugged it into laptop and now it's activating w/o a pw though it's activating through the actual laptop instead of OTA... hope it still works. I've already asked for a new PW to be emailed so if it doesn't work at least I'll have a fall back.

Wow... Again, I've noticed that upon activating my BES, my memory goes up... hahah went up by 3.9MB to 49.2MB. Weird, cuz I know it'll go right back down after the activation completes. Can anyone explain that?

Ha! As I'm writing this, it went up a total of 4.9MB now to about 50MB+... this is what MeterBerry is telling me...

Sorry Im a little late responding, yes it is pin specific but it is determined by what the Bes Admin sets as your pin to start, then the software does the rest. What I mean by that is that once it is set to reactivate through your DM, you can change devices at anytime and the DM will ask you if you want to sync to your server. As polar states you have to have the DM installed at the pc in which your corporate email resides. That is all you need if your BES Admin is willing to set it up.

Thanks all. I did get it to work, was probably the DM 5 I installed or something. My BES is set up so that it automatically reactivates upon connecting to DM5.
