Thread: Theme custom OS on .148

I have a 9530 storm on cricket with OS version .148 and I would like to know if its possible to add third party apps and themes to my phone? I half flashed it myself so If I could just get a decent guide to follow I should beable to do it with little help.

Welcome to BBOS.

You can add apps to the Storm no matter what provider you are using. Here is a walkthrough for installing a theme. There are plenty to choose from in the Theme section as well.

I was just using my phone like normal and all of a sudden it started to shut it self down automatically, it says turning hand held off press any key yo continue, its like the end key is stuck in place, if I keep pressing a key while its turning on(From a battery removed then reinserted) itl let me make a call or place a text message, but after that it just starts to try to shut itself off agian.

I tryed to do a reinstall of the OS .148 but it isn't helping. Does anyone know what I should do? I bought it off ebay and I'm using cricket for my carrier.

I suggest you try .151 or one of the updated hybrids to see if it fixes the issue.

Make sure you always back up first: phone and 3rd party apps. Also do a security wipe before wiping with JL or BBSAK.

I just did an erase with the JL thing and installed the .151 OS it is still doing the same thing. Is this an issue were it could be a hardware problem?

You haven't made any modifications what so ever to the OS including themes? Just plain clean .151?

You could have a hardware problem but I would suggest wiping everything.

Go to your Add and Remove programs on your computer and uninstall any reference to your BBOS (some people collect them.) Then go to your Loader folder and Delete the any OS version (uninstalling the program doesn't always remove them.) Whatever Version or Hybrid you previously used, delete them too (they may be corrupt.) Reboot your computer.
Go to BBOS and download a clean version. I'm running .151 just fine (run it straight at first, do all the other stuff later.) Install the Storm OS of your choice on the computer (don't change it.) Then use JL to wipe the phone. Reload the OS. After your batt pulls, test the phone (NO EXTRA APPS or Backup Restore.) Try it for a day if you can.
Then put your Contacts back on. Later, you can put back your Apps and a theme.

Sometimes you have to ease back in to a Storm. :cool2:

I deleted all the OS off my computer, and installed Desktop Manager 5.0, then used that JL program to completely wipe the phone, then I used the Loader.exe that is in the OS folder when you install the OS to the computer, it said I'm running .151 now, It still shuts off when its turned on.

I havn't beenable to figure out how to make custom changes to themes or really to the OS yet, so no, it just started messing up out of no where. But the stickers on the back are red with one white line on each sticker, could this be from water damage? It was like this when I purchased it through ebay ( good thing I bought a square trade warrenty)! Haha

To answer your question about the stickers, the answer is no. You have not received any water damage to your device according to the indicating stickers. That configuration tells you that you have not had that device exposed to water.(If those are the original stickers)

Now to get to your issue. After carefully reading through this thread, I strongly recommend you either A. Get an exchange if you can or B. return that device for a money back guarantee. Very much sounds like a hardware issue. IMHO. The device is seeing a signal to turn itself off. That's the only reason I can come up with. Unless you have an app such as Quickpull installed and it is setup to reboot after app memory dips below a set threshold and then that threshold would have to be set very high.

I would agree with Michael. Since a clean install has failed to correct the issue, I strongly suspect there is a hardware issue with the device.

yea, I bought it from ebay and I got a square trade warrenty so I'll let you guys know what happens, pretty sure its a faulty Battery connnection.
