Thread: Strange problem that recently came up with my screen

Recently I've had an odd issue with my screen and wondered if anyone else has had the issue ... It's happened to me on a number of the very recent builds w/ 5.x files in them, so i'm not totally convinced it's a hardware issue ...

occasionally when I go to wake up my phone (be it via the 4 hard keys or, more commonly, the lock button), the backlight behind the 4 hard keys lights up, but i only get a black screen ... it's not that the screen isn't turned on, because it's obviously lit up, but the display shows a black screen ... if you're in a dark room, you can tell the screen IS on, it's just showing black ... if i re-lock the screen (or wait for the timeout), then unlock it, it will usually come back ... i've had it also happen once or twice when i'm actively using the phone as well ... screen just goes black as if the OS is just displaying a completely black image (like the VSOD without the verizon logo)

any ideas? I've tried a number of different hybrids, but most of the recent ones all have the same issue ... wiped before installing them as well ... right now i'm going back to the official .148 to see if i have the same issue with it (unshrunk to make sure it's not something i'm doing)

anyone else had this issue? it doesn't seem to me like it would be a hardware issue, since the screen IS on, it's just displaying black ...

That really sounds like a hardware issue to me. I have never heard of that. It might be wise to return it for a replacement.

it happens to me once in a while. I can't remember exactly how but I get the black screen for a few seconds and nothing happens. I think maybe when I pull it out of the holster and a text is coming in. it goes black and the text notification keeps playing and the screen is black.

No I have not had this issue but good decision to give 148 a shot. If it still happens with that then you can safely assume it's a hardware issue.

I agree...If it's happening with every OS, then it cannot be OS related. Time for a replacement IMHO.

Well, initially, it was only happening after I went from 148 official to the later hybrids (I've been installing hybrids for quite a while, so that was nothing new) ... HOWEVER within a few minutes of getting the fully-unmodified (no shrink and no .90 radio, which i usually use with all hybrids because i'm a picky graphical person :P) .148 installed, it did it ... this time not when coming back from being locked, but when swiping down on the home screen to get to my options icon ... d'oh! anyway, i went in to the local verizon store and should have my replacement by monday ... fortunately when I went in, it was stuck in the "screen turned on, but black" and she couldn't figure out how to get it back w/o pulling the battery, so she didn't question me for a second

now, i just have to deal with this until Monday and refuse my obsession with installing any hybrids that may be released in the meantime so I can send it back with stock 148 ... though i guess it doesn't really matter, since i'm going to completely wipe the phone and reinstall the os when i send it back anyway :P

thanks for the input, everyone ... i was afraid it would come to this, but was hoping it would be a software issue! oh well ... hoping i get a nicer-clicking screen like others that have sent their phones in for replacements
