Question RE lyricidal hybrid on Vodafone 9500 locked

    Hi,

I'm new to this forum and to the blackberry scene altogether so apologies if my questions here are noobish

I recently purchased a Vodafone 9500 Storm and as is my habit with all my various previous devices (most HTCs, iphones) etc I got tempted to start experimenting with ROMS.

I started off with the stock 4.7.0.78 os and the stock .98 radio. I tried installing lyricidal's .148/5.0.93 hybrid but got an invalid sim card error on startup. I tried removing battery, re-sending service books, restoring a previous backup, etc but to no avail

I then thought maybe I should keep my old radio (the .98) thinking that the sim lock resides in the radio rom. So I ran the loader again with the intention of installing the hybrid, this time using the old radio .sfi in the CDMA folder. On initialising the device I then started getting App Error 523!!

So I reflashed the 4.7.0.78 back and all is working fine again. However I miss the new camera, performance improvement, etc of the hybrid OS and was wondering:

    1) Is the SIM lock in the radio rom like in Windows based devices for example?
    2) Do all radio versions work with any OS version or are there incompatibility issues?
    3) Can these hybrid roms be installed on locked Storms after all?

I would appreciate if anyone of you bb experts can shed some light and many thanks in advance

Well, first Welcome to BB OS!!!

Let me look around because I know we do have hybrids available for 9500...but you are probably better off to load 4.7.0.151, it's the newest leaked OS for 9500. All you would have to do is delete the vendor.xml file. Let me get you links in a minute.....

Thanks again for your help. I may be spending quite some time on this forum, hopefully helping out in the future too

So in theory by just removing the vendor.xml file will avoid the invalid sim error?

As far as SIM error, I don't know since I am on CDMA, but I will forward your question to one of our members. But the vendor.xml is deleted so your DM/app loader recognizes the OS.

    ktaliana welcome to BBOS

First have you ever done the torque screw fix on your phone? I now that in some cases doing this loosens the plate holding the sim card in place. Try tightening the screw a little bit over the sim card plate and see if that fixes the problem.

Bryna instisted to try this fix, your torx on the back are to lose, it wont let a good connection happen, maybe try to tighten them a bit see how it works out

I haven't done the torque screw fix. Considering that I dont have issues when I use the 4.7.0.78 with the .98 radio, is it something I should still try?

    Thanks.

I tried my friend's Vodafone SIM and still get the error. My SIM works just fine on his Storm with 4.7.0.78 os.

Can the issue be related to the provider not supporting newer OS?

.132 is not completely compaible with Vodafone 9500.

I suggest you use .141 or better still .141 and overwrite with Lyricidal 148/5.0.0.93 hybrid keeping the .141 radio.Works like a dream for me.
I have got to say I agree it appears to be hardware related and if so stay with original Os. Software may be locked.

But if it was hardware related how would it then work with an older version of the OS/radio?

I will try 654321ROD's suggestion of using the .141 radio and let you know how it goes. Btw, just to be sure, do you mean install the radio that came with the .141 OS? I believe the radio version shipped with the .141 os from vodafone was version .174 right? Cause I have tried the official .141 vodafone os downloaded from the bb uk site and that did not work either

    Thanks everyone for your help
