    There are compatability issues ....
Not all radio files will work with all OS...
That's why it takes a lot of hard work to build a hybrid of multiple versions of OS... which makes people who make hybrids real praise-worthy... which is also why we should thank people who take the effort and do all the hard work to build really great hybrids... e.g.: BBCrackman, Lyricidal and others...

To change the radio files, all that is needed to do is copy the required SFI file and overwite the unwanted SFI file... (In the CDMA folder).
    Thanks

I am sure that there are compatibilty issues. But I see much talk about swapping the radio files, and was asking about the procedure to follow to do this.

Is it simply a matter of overwriting the SFI file in the CDMA folder, and then re-installing the OS using the LOADER, or are there other files that need updating as well?

The SWAP-A-RADIO utility seems to be using 9530 radio files

Yes that's all you need to do, just copy the SFI file you want in the CDMA folder and use the loader to re-install. Make sure you're using a 9500 SFI file and cross your fingers that it works. As gabriel said, some of the older radios are not compatible with the newer versions of the OS.

If you happen to use an incompatible radio file you will get App Errors when booting the device. You will then just have to re-install using your original radio.

What did you eventually do to get your phone up?

Good thing I asked because my interpretation was different. To answer your question, yes, I have no problems wiping an OS.

then... i guess she meant wiping and re-installing a different OS...

I exited from CAL mode by pressing the send (green) and end (red) buttons at the same time while doing a battery pull out. DM will then recognise the phone and I just re-installed a working ROM.

I finally had a decent conversation with a representative of Vodafone Malta and the lady on the phone basically told me that it is impossible to install newer firmware unless it is supported by the operator! Unless I use the .78 software, when my BB connects to the BIS at Vodafone it will notice that the OS is not supported and gives me the invalid SIM. That is the explanation I got, how accurate it is ... I don't know

I am not buying that story at all. I am sure she read that off of a note card. Of course Voda will not oficially support leaked OS's but the fact they can determine you are using one when you connect to BIS, I highly doubt.

My brother lives in London and is using a BB on Voda with a leaked OS and has never had any issues.

I see what you mean but she didnt say they will recognise a leaked OS, they will just recognise that my software version is not supported.

I cant say I bought the story either though

Of course, they will never recognize leaked software as supported nor would I expect them too. Makes 100% sense.

Hi there, im new to the blackberryos.com..... (never found the time, but I did at 4am to register)

anyway, I just got a storm, 9500 and this is my second berry... was enjoying it, but I was eager to upgrade it asap due to many reasons....

I'm also from malta, like ktaliana is.... and i have the same issue

i downloaded the .167 and invalid sim... so basically i tried finding a fix, and after reading this... i decided to download .78 and install it again, which im doing right now

IF there is a fix for the radio on the storm, I would really much appreciate it, since I hate the stock os... its sucks totally
