Thread: Unable to open Email Attachments

this is not a thread as a result of .148 upgrade....

I've been trying out several of the hybrids, including both of the BBCM V6 hybrids....over the last week I noticed that I could no longer open any pdf or spreadsheet attachments....I was pretty sure that at one time I had been able to....

just noticed today that I'm now unable to open .jpg attachments sent in an email....in this case and the above I get the message "This attachment type cannot be viewed on your device"...also seem to be having an issue with my led not showing when receiving a message, or getting a tone/chime for that matter....

as a result I have tried other OS's & hybrids to see what was going on....no luck, getting the same message....

Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing? I am starting to freak as I cannot see what is wrong, and thought loading a new OS would fix....help!

What setting do you have your browser in IE, firefox, or BB and did you reload Docs to Go?

Thanks for the link! That seems to have fixed the chime/led issue as well as the .jpg attachment issue....

still no .pdf fix...have Docs to Go still.....

thanks for the help, and thanks to JLevy73 for writing the walk-thru....first time I've had this issue, so I appreciate everyone helping me off the ledge....

C6 I was never able to open PDF's until I downloaded repligo reader. I know some have said they could?

Make sure you install Blackberry Attachment Service as well.

thought that some time ago I could open pdf's on my Storm, I might be wrong...

I downloaded the trial of PDF to Go and still cannot open a pdf attachment from the email....not sure now if my BES might somehow be restricting or what....for the most part my BES is very loose and doesn't have many restrictions at all..

at this point I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...I've resent service books twice now on my email, which restored my ability to open jpg's, LED, and chime....

Hmm not sure on the BES part of it ( I am BES stupid) but I know we have several BES smart members, and hopefully they might have a suggestion. I do know that I was never able to open them until I downloaded a 3rd party PDF reader. So now that you got that hopefully someone can come in and clear up the other half

If you used Shrink A OS on your last install and accidentally shrunk off attachment services, you won't find it on DM. You will have to use the put it back button on shrink and restore it that way

Check with your BES admin. RIM issued two updates to BES software which attempt to fix a "security issue" with .pdf files and their ability to be used to hack the BES software. RIM further recommended that companies consider completely blocking pdf transmission so that might be your situation. I'm BIS and view .pdf attachments without difficulty.

just traded emails with my BES Admin about this...

she says there is a patch that came out last week and will be pushed out soon....

guess that may explain some of the problems those of us on BES are having....

im not getting emails right now, so ill report back once my phone starts working properly

okay, i have emails and apparently now i can open pdfs

Follow Up:

As promised by my BES admin, a "patch" was pushed which corrected the above issues on opening attachments.....now able to open all pdf, word, & excel files again.....

not sure if this was unique to my BES or what....I'm assuming the patch came from RIM, so maybe was more prevalent.....
