Thread: Low Speakerphone and Bluetooth Volume on 4.7.0.148

My volume was always great on OS's up to 4.7.0.132
Once i installed .141, the volume on the phone was so low, I wiped the unit and went back to .132

I tried .148 (beta version, not hybrid) and while the OS is very stable, the phone volume is much lower. The speakerphone at its top volume is way too low and if you make a mobile to mobile call on bluetooth, the volume is way too low even at the top volume.

I tried changing the automatic volume settings, enhanced audio set to enhance treble, turned off echo control for my bluetooth headset (a Motorola H710) to no avail.

My wife's unit is still on .132 and she has the same headset. Hers is nice and loud. Can anyone advise how to get my volume back and do you know if Verizon plans to address this before they release .148?

One of my co-workers upgraded his Storm to .148 and he also finds the speakerphone too low to be usable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If i could make a suggestion and and two shamless plugs lol.. you could take the gobs of time to find the bluetooth.cod and use crackmem to use the .132 bluetooth(plug 1 bbos taught me this) or you could use this http://www.blackberryos.com/forums/9...t=build+hybrid and select the .132 bluetooth and then reinstall the os on the device(plug two lyri is the man)

I'd much prefer to see how others are resolving the problem and to know if RIM and Verizon are aware of this issue.

Well with the testing envolved in these builds I am sure they are aware, And those two ways would be the only way to resolve the issue without downgrading to .132. There are no ways other than editing the .cod files involved in the os. You would essentially be creating your own hybrid. Editing that .cod file will be the only way to fix the problem. Its unfortunate but its a fix none the less.

which file(s) would i edit? How does one edit a .COD file. Which editor is best to use and would the unit need to be connected to my pc at the time?

A little confused if you are running .148 straight (not a hybrid or Lyricidal's Hybrid - you mentioned "beta").
In a prior post http://www.blackberryos.com/forums/9...html#post31051 , I reported on a 72 hour test of .148 and did not encounter the speakerphone or Bluetooth issues you mentioned. (I'm also on Verizon).
This is a problem since some users report the issues, others have no problem on seemingly the same OS. I should add that I also ran straight .132 for an extended period (several weeks) and found little if any difference between it and .148. If you're not having difficulty with .132, you may want to stay with it as I believe it is one of the better Os leaked to date...at least on my device.

there is the link again. This is the easiest way to do it. if you follow his instructions and then just go to the bluetooth drop down box and select the version you want (sounds like .132) it does the work for you. once you have done that you just use app loader and reload your os on the phone...does that make sense?

if i regress to .132, my speakerphone and bluetooth are so loud, that I can't use them higher than volume 6 out of 10

Now, i have to put it all the way up

I did a full wipe and installed it w/loader.exe

May be wipe, load .75 and then straight onto .148 without wiping. Some issues have actually been fixed that way. Or try one of the hybrids.

Please know you're apparently not alone with this issue, although others are having no issue at all.
As frightening of a prospect as it might be, it appears all Storms are not alike...so I have no clue how a code writer is suppossed to make things work for everyone. If this is true, then RIM really messed up the Storm more than one could have thought possible.
I'm running .148 straight at the moment...have been since it was leaked. I just double checked both Bluetooth and speakerphone and they are behaving perfectly...volume goes from soft to loud as I believe it is intended.
Sorry , other than changing the cod file as suggested above, I have nothing additional worthy to add.

not exactly sure ... i also need to restore the speakerphone functionality to .132

Mine was made in Mexico (it actually says Mexico 5)

The audio enhance stuff causes all kinds of problems I recommend keeping it turned off. This has caused problems when playing music also I can't even use my storm for a music device anymore because I'm too annoyed with it. Til a better fix is out I recommend using a hybrid since normally they are better in every way

I had the same issue since .141 (and included .148) was released and have spent countless days trying to figure this out. First off let's debunk the myth that it has to do with different country of origins. I have one from Canada and one from Mexico both have the same issues.

There in total 5 cod files that control bluetooth. I have tried changing the cod files on 141 and 148 with every version from 103-132 and did not work.

BBcrackman and another unnamed source spent days ripping through the SFI files removing everything but the radio in the SFI file. And voila that is where the problem is. The radio code in the SFI is to blame. Why some people are getting good results with .14X and BT and others are not is frustrating at best. But we know that no two Storms are alike.

But to the OP, yes there is a bug in the Radio of .141 and .148. I would suggest that you stick with .132 until something higher is leaked.

Can I change the CDMA Back and leave the java alone so as to get thr 5.0 files and the 148 browser?

That is correct it is the radio. Just swap out the 148 SFI with the SFI from 132 and it will be like day and night.
