Thread: To wipe...or not to wipe...

...that is the question

I almost always wipe my phone before I change any OS. I read from those who believe in it....and those who think it's unnecessary. I want to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge here, and get your opinion and why.

I have read that when you run apploader, it wipes your phone after backing everything up for you. If that is so, then why would you need to wipe your phone?

I only wipe when issues arise. Otherwise I never wipe. Sometimes I wiped and had more issues, so ended up going back to .75 and then loading over. Its been said that loader wipes just the same way when it loads.

OK...like I said...I read that apploader does the same thing. Thanks for confirming that you've read that too.

I have done it both ways several times and never had any issues but I have noticed that jlcmder does not completely wipe everything. I run the crystal clear theme and the last time I did a wipe while it was rebooting I saw the clock from the theme, not the normal spinning clock.

This is enlightening...because I too have the Crystal theme and after wiping, and had the same thing...made me wonder also.:hmmm:

Good point I noticed that the last two times I wiped with JL

I never did until 5 OS installs ago now I always do

I go like this, wipe every third upgrade, haven't noticed any issue, as for the clock of the theme you were using before I have seen the same thing but I saw the clock for a few seconds then change to one that is supposed to be.

Yep spot on E shows the theme skinned clock then reverts back to the default one

I recently started wiping before upgrades, never used to, Shane and Levy threatened to beat me up :lmao:

I think Levy got me scared into is as well :bsflag:

I find I get better results when I wipe. While it is not necessary to do so it has become apart of my OCD

Anyways, yeah I side with everyone. Wiping every few upgrades. Ever since I read that apploader does it, I have been lazy to do it every time (more so backing everything up)

You just gotta lose all your 3rd party apps one day and you would stop. I also had to talk myself into stopping. It was a slow mental healing process

I want to heal it's just so difficult. I am so used to the seeing the 507 error screen. Don't know what I would do without it lol

I find that if I wipe I have less issues. When I am lazy, I will just use app loader and let it do its thing. If I have issues or the hybrid is not performing as well as everyone is claiming, I go back and wipe and start over.

As a side note, when I wipe I use CrackUtil. I go through each step of wiping device apps, wiping file system and then reseting IT Policy. It may be overkill but I have found this completely cleans the phone to the bare bones. I too used to see the theme leftovers but not with CrackUtil and this method.
