Thread: Looking for help to better my phone

New to the forum but owner of a Storm 9530 for about 5 months now. I have been reading thru the postings and I am ready the plunge and convert it over to a better faster operating system. I would first like to know what would be the best system to upgrade to and also how to do it. Please keep in mind I am new to this so I could really use the help in upgrading my phone to a better phone. If there is some step by step instructions, starting from the very beginning and taking me all the way to the end it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to BBOS Michael! As to OS, being that you are new, i would not advise going with a hybrid until you are comfortable. I just downloaded the OS, but the link to the help center with step by step directions on how to do it is a broken link. How can I get to it?

I went to the first place you sent me to download and the link from that page is broken. When I came back to your posting and read it again I went to your link and it we fine. I am reading and trying. I will let you all know how it is going.

Ran ino a problem, when I went to back up 3rd party applications, I click on Switch Blackberry Devices and it says to click "Next". When I do that the progress bar runs but the box comes up to Select USB Your PIN and it will not give me an option. What am i doing or following wrong?

is your device connected by the usb?

make sure the connection is seated

Yes it is NEO. Do I even need to back up the 3rd party aps?

if you don't want to re-download them all it makes it easier.

shut down DM and start it up again if you want to do it

I think I am going to re-download what I need and keep moving on in the better direction.

Ok, I am lost. I get to the point where I cannect my storm and it should say there is a update, but it does not. I deleated the vendor file and I have looked in the add/remove program area and i do not see another OS version. I do not believe I installed the new OS incorectly. So what could i be doing wrong?

To make sure it is installed on your pc, go to control panel and add remove programs. It will be blackberry device software

Close DM

Go to…..C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader…..delete the vendor.xml file

Dbl Click the Loader application:


Check what you want to be installed and continue with the instructions.

Did you only download the OS? You need to download AND install it to PC.

Thank you very much for all of the help. It looks like it has loaded and is up and running. Is there anything else I need to know to be finished. My memory is at 47M and everything looks like it is there. Do I need to do a batt pull. Anything else to make it better and faster? All the help would be great.

go to options, about to see what os is running.

you should pull the battery.

I would suggest doing a battery pull after each OS change...just settles things better

I am glad you got thru it.

You can check out BBFile Scout or try File Manager Pro to delete OEM wallpapers and ringtones to add more memory, if you haven't done so yet. Otherwise, looks like you are good to go!!!
