Ok to solve your phone number issue you want to press your call button and dial ##000000 (that's 6 zeros). In here you can edit the Mobile Directory number to your own. But before you do that Who is your carrier? Do you have a BlackBerry Internet Service plan with your carrier? When it comes to installing your OS did you look at the all in one guide I posted above?Quote:

I used AllUnlocks.com but that was years ago... never had to use my phone with a sim card until next week... how do I tell if my phone is unlocked?
If it is... I buy a sim card from another carrier in the US... in the local I'll be visiting... then what? Does it assign me a local #?

You can go into Advanced options of your device and select SIM card, then type M E P D
Then you will see a screen that shows a few security types of your GSM, if none is "Active" (all lines shows "Disabled") then your Blackberry is unlocked.
Mostly a Blackberry with a SIM lock will show the "Active" status next to the "Network" or "Service provider".
