    Better Backup software/app??

I want better backup software or app. My backup through DM doesn't restore things such as assigning ringtones to contacts, my speed dial list, sign in info for myspace, facebook, etc., settings for third party apps, like when you have to enter code to register the app, & other custom settings for 3rd party apps, etc., etc.

The problem mostly seems to be with 3rd party apps. I was just wondering if someone could develop a backup restore for these kinds of things. Every time I wipe & load a new os (which is quite often). I have to go back & reset all these things manually.

Anyone else interested in something like this?
I'm hoping maybe crackman or lyricidal or could possibly make this happen.

    Ditto.....

I wish we didn't have to re-enter registration codes and readjust my ringtones everytime I change my OS. I don't have the programming skills to do this. We need someone to make this happen.

Usually all I have to do is re-enter the reg codes and change the network to 1XEV, everything else sets back to the way I had it. Not sure about ring tones as I don' set any for anyone. I'll give it a try next time though.

If I'm going to wipe the BB, I'll do a full backup, then backup 3rd party apps(double check the PIN Folder to make sure everything backed up), wipe, install OS, install 3rd party apps, full restore, enter reg codes, done.

If I upgrade the OS, I still manually back everything up like above for "just incase" but other then that, I just make sure the option for full backup is set, and everything happens automatically 99% of the time, except for reg codes. If that 1% happens, I can install apps and restore like above, done.

    Amen

I have found that the DM does not do a full restore when you are activated on a BES because the BES stores most of your settings. If you are like me though you end up removing all your stored settings from BES to BES and it's very frustrating to not have them backed up. I found that if I back them up using the DM on a pc that is not associated with my mail account, it saves everything. Then I do a full restore through that same pc and it restores everything. I've tested a few times with only one hiccup occasionally, I'll get duplicate address books, but I have disabled that through the advanced section of the backup restore on the DM and it works without a flaw.

OK, I just installed a different OS. But before I did, I set a couple ring tones for some contacts. Performed a new backup.
Again, everything restored, except for the reg codes. I don't mind putting a few reg codes in as it's no big deal.
Maybe you guys need to get the latest DM, or check your settings before you back-up apps and phone?

@ drtechy - I wonder if you put a vm on your BES PC, if it would backup and restore.

    VM

mrZoSo: I tested out your VM theory and that worked restoring 99% of the content. The only thing I noticed that was missing was one or two settings for 3rd party apps, but no biggie. I sure hope in 5.0 this backup process gets a little better.

Read and follow the attached thread, I have so many apps loaded and I agree with you it is so fustrating resetting all the passwords and on ocassion having to reinput the activation number over and over again (with PicID I had to reset everyone up after each change) and since I try new os' when available and the hybrids and i hate having to reenter all the info.
If you make sure you backup you're apps using this method http://www.blackberryos.com/forums/b...arty-apps.html and dont forget when updating the os either thru DM or the loader make sure you remove you're memory card too (this may have to do with the ringtone issue).
This is an extra step and if we did'nt change the os so often it probably wouldnt be that big of a deal (but we do and it is), this should keep you from having to reenter all the info.
    Hope this helps
