You will be able to restore 3rd party apps either way but I would suggest doing an automatic backup. This will also back up all your contacts, email, and settings on your phone.

Unfortunately that is not working for me. In DM it fails when I try to do a backup, it comes back with a error backing up database message. When I try the advanced option and move the databases from the right window to the left window they all copy with the exception of location based services which comes back with an unknown error and is grayed out as well so i can not select the clear button.

I am on a BES and am running DM5 on my laptop. Any other suggestions that I should try?

Does it ask about mass storage at any point? if it does answer no to turning it on

I would also change DM to 4.7

Neo, i had changed that option on the device (auto enable) to yes and i believe that the mass storage mode support was already set to on.

One more quick question. My phone still says v4.7.0.132(platform 4.0.0.162). How do I know if the v4 hybrid is in there?

Go to options - applications - scroll down to Blackberry 4.7 Core applications - highlight this - press BB button - modules. Then scroll down you will see that there will be files from different OS's not just .132

On the about screen it will say .132/.162 that is why I am explaining this additional info so you can determine if the hybrid was truly installed or not.

I guess its the v4. I notice stuff from 109, 131, and 132, but that is it. Again, thanks for everything. I can't wait to get started with one.

I removed all of the installed BB related software from the laptop and went back to DM 4.7 but am still getting the same results as far as the backup goes. Would clearing the IT Policy help in clearing the location based services database or would it not apply to that?

I've had this problem and this what resolved it.

On ur phone go to options - memory - auto enable mass storage mode when connected - change this to yes.

Then try restoring through DM. Let us know how it goes.

That option was already set to yes - the last good backup I had through DM was on 04/24 before I had upgraded the phone to .132 straight from .75 so I have no current backups other than my 3rd party apps that I did throught the device switch method. Am I screwed ??

Good point Stiefler, make sure that browser cache is clear could be the problem. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hey not a problem, i remember when 3.5 was released someone had this issue, and clicking no fixed the problem.. hope it works in this case.

Unfortunately none of those options worked, tried both ways with the mass storage - set to yes and then set to prompt and answered no. I did clear the browser cache as well but there was hardly anything there. What I ended up doing was an IT policy reset of the phone with crackutil and then restored from my 4/24 backup (i did loose some data, but such it goes). Did the *22899 option and 3 battery pulls hooked it back to the DM and the backup worked fine :-) Going to wait a few days before deciding to load V4.

Thanks to all for your help.
