RIM has stopped development for 4.7 and moved on with 5.0

from Radioguinea (who im my opinion as well as everyone at crackberry is a very reliable source):

"Internal Update: Development of OS 4.7 has stopped...
Development of OS 4.7 has now stopped, to focus on OS 5 for all devices. The Storm OS 5 development is now running well, and is just about up to 5.0.0.12X internally..."

sounds awesome. how exactly do the build numbers work? for example, what is the difference between 4.7.0.xxx and 5.0.0.xxx? i assume it means some major change rather than small tweaks, but i'm not too clear on it.
i would turn it all in for late nights and impossible dreams.

Not to say the source is a liar but this is another one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" type of deals

Not necessarily the software update will provide upgrades to the phone experience and provide additional features. However, BES and BIS users really only benefit when RIM rolls out a new version of those such as BIS 2.6. So really the upgrade is phone specific.

The source is definitely reliable however when the end user will see 5.X is whole other story.

Hopefully with version 5, the Storm will actually be a semi-decent phone...

I have a feeling by then Storm v2 will be out...

But a NDA does not prohibit someone from speaking about what is already in the public domain.

I agree, and I think this might be a planned approach. Lately he has been throwing a lot of OS related info to the public. The openness definitely better than all the speculation that we used to see.

Radio really does know what he's talking about.

There is no way for us to "see" that development for 4.7 has stopped... unless you are in there with RIM, you wouldn't know.

The testing cycles are long enough that we are likely to continue to see 4.7 releases/leaks (hope so!) for quite some time, even though the development has stopped.

I do not believe that 5.0 is a rework of the GUI, I have to disagree with you on that one BBC... even though I think you definitely know your stuff. I'm just an "average joe," but I've read my fair share from reliable sources and seen documentaton from RIM on 5.0, and it really seems like the same GUI 95%. Not many, if any, graphical changes. Yeah, a new boot up screen, and some different media stuff, etc... but I think the important changes come in true functionality.

I would agree with you on this. Other sites have provided detailed walk throughs of 5.0 and most of the changes are in terms of functionality. Also true that we probably see further 4.7 leaks before 5.0 is leaked. I could be wrong on that and would love to see something in the 5.0X range available to Storm users sooner rather than later.
