Thread: Help understanding OS terminology

At the chance of sounding like a moron, I would like to ask what the terms used mean.

In all the creation of the Hybrids and the new OS leaks (from 76 all the way to 132) we hear people ask what radio code is being used, what MMS code is being used, what CMDA and JAVA code.

I will admit, I get a smite bit confrused.

When someone asks which radio code, what are they refering to? What does the radio code affect? Is this the transmitter and receiver during calls or is it just data transmission? Does it even refer to the transceiver?

What does the CMDA affect? As with the MMS and JAVA?

Please forgive my ignorance, but I would like to be able to provide better feedback, and understanding the terms would greatly help.

The radio is an sfi file, which is located in the CDMA folder, its only thing in the CDMA folder. The radio is what gives the phone its color, quickness, stability. The radio is the biggest part in an upgrade. The mms.cod is part of the Java folder and certain one are broken not allowing you to send pictures

no one is laughing im sure someone will give you a great explination but i will give you the laymens terms i know...radio code and CDMA are the same thing...when you download a new os in the folder for the os there is a cdma and java folder if you open the cdma there is a .sfi file that is the radio code it is the base of the os....and yes it deals with your recetion and speed of the overall os.. now mms is picture message's just as SMS is standard text, there was a broken mms.cod but the higher powers(BBC and people like him) figured out how to fix it. Java files are the processes that run the os on your phone...tells what to run and how from what i understand. Now thats about all i know so hope that helps some

Oh ok. So the radio is the "brain" and "personality" of the phone (so to speak). It has nothing to do with the transceiver.

Really we shouldnt really call it a radio file.... should call and like .99 sfi file which in same terms is the "radio", no harm tho we know what everyone means. but we all use "codenames" Red-Hawk Out! LOL

I think this is a great question, I bet there are many new & veteran users out there that could learn by the answer to this question.

Very smart to bring common terms like this out into the open so all can benefit.

The SFI file or "Radio" code is also responsible for accelerometer speed and color (or lack thereof) in addition to the radio. There may be other facets the SFI controls but those are the ones I am aware of.

Now I have a much better idea of what everyone is talking about. THANKS A TON!!!
