Thread: It appears that radio files are responsible for activation of Japanese Input Option.

As I have reported elsewhere in this forum, the Japanese Input Option CAN be activated with

9500_omadrmjAllLang_PBr4.7.0_rel230_PL4.0.0.205_A4 .7.0.167_TaiwanMobile.exe
(2009/10/16 19:59 19,391,752 bytes \CDMA\rim0x06001404OMADRM.sfi)

whereas it CANNOT be activated with

9500_omadrmEastAsia_PBr4.7.0_rel230_PL4.0.0.205_A4 .7.0.167_TaiwanMobile.exe
(2009/11/23 16:46 14,869,768 bytes \CDMA\rim0x06001404OMADRM.sfi).

Likewise, the Japanese Input Option CAN be activated with

9500_omadrmjAllLang_PBr4[1].7.0_rel245_PL4.0.0.212_A4.7.0.181_Hutchison.exe
(2009/08/03 10:48 19,391,532 bytes \CDMA\rim0x06001404OMADRM.sfi)

whereas it CANNOT be activated with

9500_omadrmAllLang_PBr4[1].7.0_rel245_PL4.0.0.212_A4.7.0.181_StarHub_Ltd.exe
(2009/07/31 09:58 14,869,548 bytes \CDMA\rim0x06001404OMADRM.sfi).

It appears that the Japanese Input Option CAN be activated ONLY with those radio files which contain something special and essential for such option.

Thanks again, this would explain, while so many users have difficulties to just add the language files from other OS' to the berry - which indeed seems to be possible for many language packs, but not for Japanese input.

I believe that many Japanese users have been using 9530 with either of these OS files (plus Japanese related .cod files transplanted from 9500 OS files) installed.

Please note that contents of

9530jAMEA_PBr4.7.0_rel230_PL4.0.0.205_A4.7.0.167_I usacell.exe
9530jEastAsia_PBr4.7.0_rel230_PL4.0.0.205_A4.7.0.1 67.exe (leaked file)

Under OS 4.7.x for 9500 (and transplantedly 9530) the Japanese Input option is constructed in CJK.alx and Platform.alx as quoted below. Please note that none of these .cod files is large enough to contain the Japanese dictionary, which is essential for the operation of the Japanese Input option.

For your information, the sizes of dictionary files used by Japanese IME (Input Method Editor) of Microsoft Windows 95, Me, NT 3.5, NT3.51, NT 4, 2000, XP, Vista, 7, etc. are 10+ M bytes.

a friend of mine tells me an official aus vodafone 5.0 os for 9500 will be out today.dont know which one.

5.0.0.425 released (via Desktop Manager) for Vodafone Australia early in December was 9500_omadrmEFIGS_Dutch, I suppose. I hope that the new OS could be a slightly different edition.

I have recently realized that 9530 devices have been marketed through Redington (India) Limited, which in October last year released jAllLang edition of OS 4.7. I am pleased to report that the Japanese Input option CAN be invoked on a 9530 device with 9530jAllLang_PBr4[1].7.0_rel230_PL4.0.0.205_A4.7.0.167_Redington__Indi a__Limited.exe installed.
